He thought I was lying. He believed that after I got him to sign the divorce papers, I was suddenly backing out and refusing to donate blood.

Mom’s face shifted from one expression to another. She knew how serious my injury was. For a moment, she had forgotten that I was still recovering from my wounds in her desire to help Julianne.

Thinking back to how I had just received so much blood from strangers and had been taking so many medications, I didn’t know what kinds of things might be in my blood.

Even if Mom didn’t care that I had just been injured and that my body was too weak for a transfusion, she would never let her precious Julianne risk receiving my blood.
