As Lisa and I were chatting happily, I heard the sound of a door opening and closing across the hall. 

The landlady had mentioned the new tenant would be moving in today, so it seemed my new neighbor had arrived. 

“Lisa, do you think I should go introduce myself to my new neighbor? In case something like last night happens again, it might be easier to ask for help,” I said 

“Your neighbor is a man. If you knock on his door just after he moves in, he might think you’re either overly friendly or up to something.” Lisa’s words made me laugh. 

“Really?” 

“Really.” 

Alright, I’d wait for a chance encounter instead. 

Given that we lived across from each other, the chances of running into him were high. 

But I was wrong. Over the next two days, I didn’t see my new neighbor even once, and Brandon didn’t come by either. 

It turns out that the hero only cares to rescue the damsel once. Was he not worried that my date from that night might seek revenge and come to harm me again? 

This realization dampened the good impression I had of Brandon. 

By the end of the weekend, I hadn’t received a termination call, so I still had to start my new job the next day. 

As I was preparing my outfit for my first day, Kara called. “Maddie, why don’t you care about the amusement park anymore?” 

“Not my job, not my responsibility,” I joked. 

Of course, I cared. Brandon had left a note saying everything was going smoothly, so what was there to worry about? 

At that moment, I realized just how much I trusted Brandon. 

Kara snorted, “Mr. Howell has had a change of heart lately. He’s not making us work night shifts anymore.” 

“Hmm?” I was puzzled. The initial verification for the lighting adjustments was done during the day, but the final verification needed to be done at night. How could they not work night shifts? 

“Mr. Howell said we should do the adjustments first and then verify everything at once later.” Kara’s words made me frown. 

How could that work? 

If there were issues during the final verification, making adjustments then could affect other settings that had already been completed. 

Brandon and I had agreed to verify each adjustment as we went along, so how could he just change the plan? 

Despite what I had just told Kara about not worrying since it wasn’t my responsibility anymore, I called Brandon right after hanging up with her. 

I was the type to get agitated easily, so I felt cooped up in my bedroom and moved to the balcony while

waiting for Brandon to pick up. 

Once on the balcony, I saw a tall figure on the neighboring balcony. I turned to look. 

The figure retreated into the apartment, so I only caught his side profile. 

Even though it was brief, I was stunned.
