I didn't have the strength to push Chris away, and he had a knack for flattering himself.

But I would let him if he wanted to fantasize. Chances were the deeper his obsession, the deeper he would end up hurting himself in the end.

Perhaps this was his punishment, or perhaps my parents were feeling sorry for all the suffering I had been through with Chris in the past ten years. And that was why he couldn't move on from our past.

"Gordon will bring you a phone shortly. Go back and get some rest," Chris said, finally letting me go. He walked away with his back tall and straight just like before.

In the past, watching Chris from behind always filled me with happiness. Now it just felt distant and even a little unfamiliar.

I went downstairs, and Gordon appeared just as I reached the lobby. "Ms. Crown."

Although I was no longer Chris' assistant, Gordon still addressed me respectfully, but I didn't bother to correct him since it was just a title.

"Mr. Gildon sent me to buy you a phone, the brand you like but it's the latest model," Gordon said as he handed me a bag.

I didn't take it and simply said, "No need. Just let me use your phone for a moment."

Gordon froze. "Ms. Crown…"

His words trailed off because of the look in my eyes. He knew that I wouldn't change anything once I had made up my mind.

"Are you going to let me use your phone? If not, then forget it," I said as I turned to walk away.

"Yes here, take it." Gordon hurriedly pulled out his phone and handed it to me.

I took it and glanced at Gordon, who sensibly walked away. I dialed Brandon's number.

"Sorry, the number you've dialed is unavailable."

I gripped the phone tighter to hear that. Since I couldn't reach Brandon on the phone, was he already on a flight back?

Gordon opened the car door for me. The car was exclusively Chris'. I had ridden in it countless times, and I thought I'd never sit in it again.

I didn't make a fuss about refusing to get in because moving on didn't mean cutting all ties. It meant being able to face Chris and everything about him with a calm heart.

But as soon as I got in the car, I realized I wasn't quite there yet.

Everything in the car was just as it had been. Even the neck pillow in the front passenger seat was still in place. It was my neck pillow, something I used to relax my neck during our commutes.

But we had broken up, and he was now in a relationship with Jewel. Shouldn't he have thrown my items away?

Did Chris forget to throw it away, or was he fantasizing that I would use it someday?

As I was lost in thought, Gordon handed me a box. I looked at the packaging on the box and at him.

Gordon smiled at me. "It's from Mr. Gildon."
