“Threatened miscarriage.” 

Wait, what? Did I hear that right? Miscarriage?! 

“Doctor, I’m pregnant?” I blurted, grabbing her coat like it was my last lifeline. My voice was a weird mix of shock, panic, and–okay, a tiny spark of joy. 

The doctor blinked at me. “You didn’t know?” Then she gave me the most judgmental mom glare ever. “Young people these days–so reckless, no sense of responsibility.” 

She glanced between Jace and me like she’d already decided we were just another careless couple. I didn’t even bother correcting her. My brain was too busy short–circuiting. 

“Doctor, am I really pregnant?” I asked again, desperate for confirmation. 

“Yes,” she said. “But it’s not good news yet. The pregnancy’s at risk. Whether the baby makes it… it’s uncertain.” 

Her bluntness hit like a slap. “Please, doctor,” I begged, my voice wobble. “Help me save the baby.” 

I’d been secretly hoping for this–like, without even realizing it. And now? My baby was here, and I’d been too clueless to notice. The guilt hit like a truck. 

‘Baby, please hang in there. I promise, I’ll do better. Just be okay, please.‘ 

“For now, strict bed rest,” the doctor said, typing away on her computer like this was no big deal. “Only get up for the bathroom or food. We’ll monitor for a week. If the bleeding doesn’t stop, we won’t be able to save the baby. 

“Can I stay here at the hospital?” I asked. I was too freaked out to even think about moving. Plus, Lena worked here as the head of OB–GYN, so it felt safer to stay close. 

But Lena was stuck in surgery, so I was stuck with this doctor, who wasn’t exactly giving off warm and fuzzy vibes. Otherwise, I knew she’d be by my side, personally handling my 

care. 

“This hospital’s OB–GYN is full. You’ll have to rest at home,” she said, her tone icier than a popsicle in January. 

Seriously? I was practically a regular at this hospital’s OB–GYN department. The nurses even joked I should get an honorary badge. But this doctor? Total stranger. 

“We’ll take a VIP suite,” Jace cut in, dropping his usual money solves everything energy. 

The doctor didn’t even blink. “VIP is full, too.” 

“Then add a bed. If she leaves and something happens, who’s taking responsibility?” His

Jace glanced at me, his expression darkening when he noticed how pale I was. “Do I need to call the hospital director?” he asked, low and dangerous. 

Her glare could’ve melted steel. Before the situation exploded, a familiar voice cut in 

“There’s no need for that. If there’s no room, she can stay in my office,” Lena said, walking in.
