Lena was so startled that she was about to ask what he was doing when, suddenly, her wrist tightened. A sharp pain shot through her wrist bone, and the heavy weight in her hand disappeared. 

Aaron held the bracelet, staring at her for two whole seconds before turning around and walking away. 

Watching his retreating figure, Lena’s lips parted slightly, but in the end, she said nothing. 

After all, she had planned to return it anyway. Since he wanted to take it back himself, she might as well let him. At least it saved her the trouble of dealing with it. 

She just wondered what excuse he would come up with to return it on her behalf. 

Naturally, after that, it would be awkward for her to go back inside. So, she sent a message to Ron, saying that an emergency had come up at the hospital and she had to rush back. 

At times like this, she was grateful for her profession. No matter when she used this excuse, no one would question it after all, it was a matter of life and death. 

After leaving the Shane household, Lena headed straight to Keira’s little courtyard. What surprised her was that today, Dr. Lane had actually brought her a bouquet of fresh flowers. 

“What’s with the sudden generosity?” Keira took the flowers, teasing her happily. 

“The southwest wind from the Mediterranean,” Lena replied, glancing at Keira’s belly. “The baby’s growing fast. 

She was a professional, so her words immediately made Keira nervous. “Is that a bad thing?” 

“No, but you need to watch your diet. Don’t eat too much, or both you and the baby will suffer during delivery,” Lena explained. 

Keira glanced toward the house, where her husband, the culprit, was busy preparing all sorts of delicious meals for her. If the baby or she ended up gaining too much weight, he would definitely be to blame. 

“You see him every day, and it’s still not enough?” Lena joked. 

Keira withdrew her gaze and called out, “Hayden.” 

Her husband immediately responded, “Coming.” 

Lena chuckled. “You two really have that old married couple vibe now.” 

“We prefer to call it being inseparably in love,” Keira corrected her. 

Hayden walked over, carrying the coffee he had specially made for Lena. “Welcome, Dr. Lane, to our humble home.” 

“Coffee personally brewed by Mr. Hart? I must be quite lucky today,” Lena bantered. 

Keira handed the bouquet to Hayden. “These are from Lena.” 

“If you want a daughter, you should look at more flowers. It’s supposed to help,” Lena remarked. Her words immediately reminded Keira that she was the one who always did her ultrasounds—she must already know whether she was having a boy or a girl. 

“Are you trying to hint at something?” Keira asked. 

She took a sip of coffee. “Hint at what? Can you not overthink everything?”

“No matter what, the baby is ours,” Hayden said nonchalantly, 

With that, he left the room, giving Lena and Keira some space. Keira looked at her, saying nothing, but Lena understood her meaning.

“I have professional ethics,” she stated firmly. “Besides, determining the baby’s gender for non–medical reasons is illegal.” 

She was taking the moral high ground, so Keira snorted. “Fine, don’t say anything. I’ll find out soon enough anyway.” 

“Exactly, you’ll know soon enough,” Lena replied, her lips sealed as tightly as ever. 

But Keira wasn’t that curious anyway. It was just a fun conversation. 

“You’re dressed differently today,” Keira finally noticed something unusual about her.
