Hayden offered to have her stay for dinner, but she said she had to study for exams and left soon after.

He didn’t say a word, just turned and walked back into the house,

“Probably,” Keira sighed. “He’s always treated her like his own daughter.” 

But Keira knew that wasn’t his only concern. 

After all, Nate and Lena had a past. 

“Hayden doesn’t think Nate is unworthy of his sister just because Nate and I used to be together, does he?” Lena mused, picking up on it quickly. 

There was no need to keep secrets between them. “Maybe.” 

“Hah.” Lena scoffed. “Tell him to rest easy. Nate and I are done. He has no feelings for me anymore, and I’ve long since moved on. We were just a passing part of each other’s youth.” 

“But his sister is still a blank slate,” Keira murmured.
