Maddox, The Broken Alpha novel Chapter 1

Maddox's POV

Oh my gosh I can't wait to get home, I'm practically bouncing in my seat as the packhouse finally comes into view.

My name is Maddox and I just turned 18 Three days ago.

My parents are both males, my father who was the previous Alpha is Thaddeus and my dad his mate is Aiden.

My older brother Reid is now the current Alpha of our pack the Midnight Moon pack.

I have a twin sister Isabel we call Izzy.

My dad and his twin sister were what they called the magical twins. They were born with special abilities, special powers. My dad passed on those powers to us three kids. My sister and I since we're twins, our powers are connected, the further apart we are the weaker our powers get. But Addison's grandmother had these special crystals blessed by her coven. As long as Addison and I both wear our crystal it connects us so our powers aren't as weak when we're separated.

My older brother Reid is the strongest of us three. Since he's not a twin he doesn't need anyone to enhance his powers. He has the ability to move things with his mind like my sister and I but his unique gift is that he can harness ice and create it in his hands.

He can pull it from the ground or he can shoot it from his hands to kill his enemies.

My sister's unique ability is she can harness fire, she can shoot fire from her hands, from a little stream to a giant ball that explodes on contact.

I can harness energy, I can create it in my hands and shoot it out at my enemies similar to my sister. Either in a small stream or a large ball that explodes on contact. I also have one extra ability, I can freeze people or objects that are moving.

Comes in hand when you want to screw with your bigger brother who's trying to tear your head off for playing a prank on him. Which I'm definitely good for a prank or two.

Which reminds me, I quickly grab my bag and open it and smile when I see my new supply that I picked up while away. I smile and try not to giggle knowing my brother is long overdue for a good prank or two.

"What's so funny over there?" My father asked.

I quickly zip my bag up.

"oh nothing, nothing. Just thinking of something funny that's all."

I say as I look out the window trying to hide my smile. I noticed my dad's shaking his head, obviously seeing right through my lie.

I went away 6 months ago for Alpha training and was supposed to be back 3 days before my birthday but ended up getting snowed in so here I am arriving 2 days after my sister and I turned 18.

Not only did it suck that I had to spend a birthday without my twin but I was looking forward to it for another reason. Addison!

Addison is my sister's best friend who we grew up with from diapers.

Seven months ago she turned 18 and found out I was her mate. My sister was in the middle of trying to plan Addison's big 18th birthday party when Addison walked through the door and realized I was her mate.

Flashback

"Oh my Goddess sis you're killing my game!" I said as I let out and exaggerated sigh before setting my controller down.

It's no use trying to play this damn game when she's sitting here yapping her mouth going on and on about Addison's birthday.

"Just help me pick which one."

She said desperately trying to get me to look at her phone.

"Just have her pick it!

Oh, speaking of the devil here she is. Have her pick it out it's her birthday."

I said as I turn to look at Addison as she walked into the room.

"Izzy I just finished picking..."

I watched her as she froze and stopped mid sentence while staring at me. I cocked an eyebrow at her waiting for her to finish her sentence.

"Go on." I said still waiting on her to finish her sentence.

I furrowed my eyebrows at her confused, why she was just standing there with her mouth hanging open. I watched as her mouth closed and her body seemed to tense almost as if it was trembling.

"No fucking way!"

She whispered and my stomach dropped.

Oh my goddess, it's her birthday....

"You know what, I'm not really feeling good.... Yeah I have to... I have to go."

She said and my stomach dropped even further as I watched her turn around and practically run out of the pack house.

I got up and went to the door and opened it. I watched her as she ran down the driveway and across the grass as she took off toward her house. It was then I caught the lightest scent of her, she doesn't want me.

The look of shock and disappointment on her face was incredibly obvious not to mention what she mumbled. I felt my heart break as I hung my head and closed the door before slowly walking up stairs to my room. Ignoring my sister as she tried to call me back to help her.

I walk to my bed and let myself fall backwards onto it as I let out the breath. I stared at the ceiling as I thought about what happened. All these years my sisters annoying friend turns out to be my mate.

Her insanely gorgeous but annoying friend. How have I not seen this coming. How is it that me and my sister are able to smell our mates before our 18th birthday.

It was very faint, but I still could smell that she was my mate. My wolf was whimpering in my head, he saw her reaction too.... He heard her words and tucked his tail whimpering right away.

That's okay Apollo don't worry about her. We don't need her I said to my whimpering wolf.

I wonder if she's going to reject me now or wait until I'm 18?

You know what screw that, I'm going to reject her first. I'm not going to wait for her to do it.... Wait a minute do I have to wait until I'm 18 to reject someone? Crap I'm not even sure how that works.

I hauled myself up off my bed and made my way to the library. I need to look this up and see if I can find any information on this.

I freeze as soon as my hand was on the door knob. I feel my heart ache at the thought of even looking for this kind of information let alone considering even doing it. I turn around and rest my back against the door, letting myself slide down as I drop to the floor. I rest my head back against the door and let out of a breath as I run my hands down my face.

"Fuck!... Goddess this hurts!" I whisper as I rub my hand against my chest trying to make the pain go away.

Is it because I'm always joking and too playful or "obnoxious", as everyone seems to call me.

If that's the case then I don't need her, I don't need someone who doesn't like who I am. This is who I am, I'm a playful person who likes to joke around a lot. If she doesn't like that then I don't need her. I need someone who's going to want me for who I am and this is who I am!

With my new found determination I push myself off the floor and quickly walk until the library.

Ugh, this is ridiculous! I've been through so many stupid books and none of them say anything about rejecting before your 18th birthday.

I did however find out why my sister and I can smell our mate before our 18th birthday.

Apparently it's not uncommon for twins to be able to identify their mate if their mate is already 18. They can identify their mate within the year before they turn 18. It's not the full mate pull, the scent and every thing that goes along with the mate bond is very weak. But it gets stronger the closer you get to 18.

The key to being able to identify your mate before 18 is if you are aware the other person is your mate. That is the trigger that activates the ability to identify them.
