Cherise tenderly cradled her filled belly, her fingers tracing gentle circles as she posed her inquiries, her voice laced with growing anger. "What has prompted this abrupt rush toward marriage?"

"Did you not mention that Lennon harbored profound affection for Lucy?"

"Why, then, is he hastily tying the knot with Violet in less than a fortnight?"

"Surely he's aware of the mistreatment Violet inflicted upon Lucy in the past?"

Cherise's fury surged with a deluge of questions. Then, without pause, she continued, "Why did you not cut your ties with Lennon earlier?"

"A man like him is contemptible," she added, her disdain palpable.

"He failed to shield Lucy while they were together, and now, after parting ways, his attention seems fixated solely on her, yet behind everyone's back, he's pre-determined a date for his wedding!"

Listening to his wife's impassioned grievances regarding Lucy's unfair treatment, Damien offered a helpless smile. He tidied away the small bed tray and put it away, his voice gentle as he spoke. "There's more to this than meets the eye."

"To get his inheritance from the Belcourts, Lennon must wed Violet."

Cherise couldn't help scoffing in response, "Hmph, it all boils down to money at the end of the day."

"Trust me, it's not merely about finances," Damien countered.

A faint smile graced the corners of Damien's lips. "Firstly, for years, Lennon's romantic ties with Lucy have created tensions with the Belcourts. Marrying Violet is the quickest and easiest method to mend those fractured ties."

"Secondly, akin to Colin, Lennon can only access privileges previously beyond his reach by assuming the mantle of heir within the Belcourt family."

Cherise persisted in her skepticism, scoffing, "Do not even bother putting Lennon next to Colin."

"Colin is striving to ascend as heir of the Gray family so that he can uncover the details regarding his aunt's issues."

Cherise probed further, her lips pursed in skepticism. "And Lennon? What about him? Is his motive solely driven by financial gain?"

Cherise's expression hardened. "I suspected as much. Lennon, being slightly older than you and having served under your command for many years, likely has built up resentment."
