Chapter 1604

Although the interior of the house was coated in dust, having been inhabited for years, the furniture and electrical appliances were all in fine condition.

She only realized that when she bumped into a light switch after John left last night.

After she finished her stolen buns, she went to the kitchen and found an electric kettle. She made sure to wash it several times before using it to boil some water to drink.

After having eaten and drank, she felt much better. Her strength was restored at last. That was when she began to miss Caprice.

It had been a full day since her absence. She wondered if her daughter was missing her.

At John’s.

He opened his eyes before dawn even broke.

He was going to head straight to the hospital.

He took a quick shower and as soon as he stepped out of the shower, he saw Caprice sitting up in the center of the bed and staring at him with her large and pearly eyes that she inherited from her mother.

She seemed to be slightly perturbed as if there was something deeply bothering her.

The moment she saw John, she glowed up and cried out in a sweet, angelic voice,” Daddy!”

She stretched her arms out toward John and demanded a hug.

The look in John’s eyes immediately softened. He stepped toward the bed and took her into his arms.

Caprice felt safe in his arms and burrowed herself into his neck as usual, it was her safe space.

John asked softly, “Caprice, why are you up so early?”

“I dreamt that Mommy and Daddy don’t want me anymore.” It was only at this point that John noticed that there were tiny beads of tears hovering in her eyes.

He felt terrible when he heard this and immediately reassured her. “Caprice, you’ll forever be Daddy’s sweetheart. There’s no way that Daddy would ever abandon you.”

Caprice made a look and asked, “What about Mommy?”

John suddenly did a double take, he said quite unconvincingly, “Mommy won’t abandon you too.”

Caprice grunted in agreement, she did seem quite comforted now.

Julie followed into the backseat and sat next to John.

She felt rather nervous when she realized she was so close to the man she had always admired. Her heart was thumping furiously against her chest and she could not stop stealing glances at him.

John barely noticed.

He was busy helping Caprice put on her shoes that had fallen off at one point.

Julie took the opportunity to stare at him.

In the middle of her trance, she happened to notice Caprice staring at her. She was leaning against John’s shoulder and directly facing Julie, her eyes were like a pair of gemstones.

Julie was caught off guard by this and quickly erased the mesmerized look on her face. She quickly flashed a gentle, friendly smile at Caprice.

Caprice had always been possessive by nature, perhaps because she was always coddled by her father growing up, in addition to being an only child. Instead of returning a smile at her aunt, she immediately wrapped her arms tightly around her father’s neck.

It was as if she was trying to send a message, ‘Daddy is mine!’

Julie was not expecting this, a frosty look appeared in her eyes. How dare a three-year-old rascal try to provoke her?
