When night rolled around, they heard sounds coming from the bedroom.

Sherry hurriedly put aside the laptop and went to the bedroom.

As soon as she pushed the door open, she saw Caprice sitting on the floor next to the bed, her hair looked like a freshly made bird nest.

She must have lost her footing when she tried to crawl out of bed and ended up tumbling onto the floor.

She was not crying. If anything, she looked like she had barely come to her senses after having just woken up.

The moment she saw Sherry entering the room, a light entered her eyes at last. She instantly sprang to life and stretched her hands outward as she cried, “Mommy!”

Sherry quickly went to her and took her into his arms.

Caprice gleefully wrapped her arms around Sherry and pressed her cheeks against Sherry’s, showering her with affection.

Sherry smiled and asked, “Caprice, are you hungry?”

Caprice muttered, “A little bit.”

“What do you want to eat?”

“Anything tasty!”

Sherry smiled upon hearing this.

Fortunately, the child was never a picky eater. She would eat anything as long as it tasted good, so it made it easy to feed her.

She walked out of the room with Caprice resting on her shoulder.

The first thing she did was hand Caprice some snacks to stay off hunger for now. After that, she got her phone and ordered some fresh groceries.

Just like she did the past few days.

After the ingredients arrived, John went to the kitchen to cook for them.

Sherry watched cartoons with Caprice while waiting for John to prepare dinner for them.

Before long, the fragrant smell of food seeped out of the kitchen.

Sherry gulped.

Caprice had lost interest in the cartoon at this point. She climbed off the couch and hopped her way to the kitchen like a frog.

Sherry followed behind her.

She was perfectly aware that she had been caught.

Sherry gently patted her head. “Mommy will pretend that she didn’t see anything, but don’t ever do that again, understand?”

Caprice smiled. “Understood.”

Sherry picked her up with a warm smile and took her to the washroom.

She helped Caprice wash the grease off her fingers from when she stole the piece of shrimp.

Inside the kitchen, John quietly gazed at the figures of the pair of mother and daughter. He chuckled to himself before plating the final dish.

By the time Sherry and Caprice stepped out of the washroom, dinner was already set on the dining table.

Caprice’s eyes beamed with joy.

Sherry put Caprice into the chair, then she went into the kitchen and helped scoop out bowls of soup, one serving for everyone.

John was taken aback by this and stared at her as if starstruck

It was rather surprising to him that Sherry would voluntarily step into the kitchen to help him.
