Chapter 1729
Sherry bent over to carry Caprice into her arms.
Caprice was more perceptive than she would appear and immediately noticed Sherry’s swollen cheeks as soon as she bent over. She raised an eyebrow and promptly pointed it out. “Mommy, why is your face swollen?”
Sherry quickly came up with a story. “Mommy accidentally tripped while rushing back home.”
Caprice seemed worried. “Did it hurt?”
Sherry felt a warm fuzzy feeling rising in her chest and assured Caprice with a genuine smile. “It only hurt a little when I fell, but it doesn’t hurt anymore.”
Caprice gently grazed it with her fingers.
Sherry caressed Caprice as well and carried her into her arms.
Aunt Wanda had already prepared dinner for them.
John was the one who bought the grocery today though it was Aunt Wanda who cooked them. She seemed to worry that Sherry would not eat the food knowing that it was John who bought them and made a point of informing Sherry, “Miss Sherry, Caprice and I picked out these vegetables at the supermarket this afternoon, these are very fresh.”
Sherry smiled and thanked her, “Thank you, Aunt Wanda.”
Aunt Wanda smiled and was very courteous. “No need, it’s my pleasure.”
Sherry asked her to sit down and eat with them.
Halfway through the meal, there was a knock on the door.
Aunt Wanda went to get the door for them.
Sherry turned to the entrance and was greeted by the sight of several policemen.
She was taken aback by this and turned to look at Caprice.
Caprice was very curious about the men in police uniforms and seemed like she had many questions to ask.
That was when John suddenly turned to Aunt Wanda. “Wanda, why don’t you and Jason take Caprice and play with her for a bit?”
Aunt Wanda immediately understood what this meant. She promptly carried away Caprice who barely had her fill yet.
Before Caprice could even utter a word of protest, she was carried outside by Aunt Wanda.
“Alright.”
The officers left shortly after that.
John handed Sherry a glass of warm water and spoke to her softly, “Have some water. I’ll take you to the station to lodge an injury report.”
Sherry was certainly feeling thirsty after all that talk.
She took a gentle sip from the glass before she rose to her feet and limped toward the door.
John frowned upon seeing this. He promptly approached her and wrapped an arm around her waist to support her.
Sherry shot him a look. “Let go of me, I don’t need your help.”
“I’ll do that as soon as we get into the car.” He refused to yield and proceeded toward the elevator.
Sherry heaved a long sigh.
She decided to let it slide and accept his help, especially since it hurt to walk.
