Chapter 1982

John said while staring intently into Odell's eyes, "No matter how many children Caprice and Liam bear in the future, at least one of them has to take up the Stockton name."

Sherry did not seem like she had anything to say about that.

She was not concerned about how many children Caprice would bear with Liam or what surname their children would take up. Regardless, this was not an outrageous condition coming from John.

Perhaps this was one of those things men could relate to better since after a brief silence, thus it was Odell who agreed, "Alright."

Sylvia smiled and announced gladly, "What about next Saturday? It will be a fine day for Caprice and Liam to officially get engaged."

Sherry nodded her approval. "Sure."

John offered, "We will host the engagement ceremony at my place."

Odell had no qualms about that. "Sure."

Sylvia asked, "Does that mean that you two will be handling the entire procession?"

Sherry spoke, "Yes, I'll discuss it with Caprice's grandmother once we get back to Glanchester."

Sylvia offered kindly, "Alright, let me know if you need anything from us at all."

Sherry smiled. "Sure."

Caprice was not expecting them to work out the date so quickly. She had just pulled away from Liam after the two exchanged a kiss when their parents emerged from the living room.

She was so jolted that she quickly shoved Liam away from her and straightened herself awkwardly.

Liam gathered himself as well and looked at them as if nothing had happened at all.

"Caprice, let's go. We’re taking you back to your dorm," Sherry called after Caprice.

"Your father here named another condition for the engagement," Sherry remarked.

"What? Haven't you proposed that Liam had to marry into our family for the engagement to proceed? How are you still giving more conditions?" Caprice asked.

Sherry said with a smile, "Hasn't your father explained it to you? He only said that in hopes of delaying the inevitable engagement between you two. He was not expecting the Carters to agree so readily. We never intended for Liam to become a Stockton, so we've already clarified the situation with them."

"Ohh." Caprice expressed in stark surprise, then she asked again, "You mean Liam isn’t going to marry into our family?"

"Yeah, what's the matter?" Sherry seemed puzzled by her reaction.

Why did it seem to her that Caprice was slightly upset by this?

Caprice scowled. "But I already promised Liam that I was going to do my best to take care of him! I was going to become his reliable support and care for his every need!"

She had just made a vow, so why did they suddenly call off the previous arrangement?
