Brielle's car was still parked outside when she noticed another vehicle pulling out of the driveway. The windows were tinted dark, but she was almost certain it was King behind the wheel. Quickly, she started her car to follow him, curious about where he was heading.

Tailgating wasn’t exactly Brielle’s strong suit. Any half-attentive driver could easily spot they were being followed and shake her off. But the car ahead maintained a leisurely pace, showing no signs of trying to lose her.

As she followed at a safe distance, her mind wandered back to the pieces of evidence she had been piecing together. The jewelry counter where she had seen the kid at the mall was the same place where she and Max had once shopped for rings. That kid must have been buying a ring as a gift, not for himself. And, coincidentally, it was the exact same design as the one on her finger.

Glancing down at her hand, she noticed the two rings she wore—one for women and one for men, both perfectly matching her ring size. A honk from the car behind snapped her out of her thoughts, and she quickly refocused on tailing King's car.

Eventually, King's car stopped at a suburban mansion. Brielle watched as he got out and headed inside. Her car was so close to his that it was blatantly obvious she was tailing him. Yet, nobody seemed to care or stop her.

Stepping out of her car, Brielle approached the front gate, half-expecting to be stopped. The security guards acted as if they were blind, completely ignoring her presence. For a moment, she wondered if they were actually blind, until a soccer ball came flying toward them and one of the guards skillfully kicked it back, drawing a cheer from a nearby kid.

They weren’t blind; they were just pretending not to see her. It reminded her of the time she had entered the casino—everyone turned a blind eye to her wandering into restricted areas.

Inside, before Brielle could even knock, she heard pleading voices followed by a gunshot echoing from within. Hesitating only for a moment, she cracked the door open.
