Everett was boiling over, his anger spilling into his words. “Can’t you understand plain English? Selena, if I wanted a divorce, I wouldn’t be going through all this hassle. I could easily kick you out without a dime. Do you really think you would have a shot at fighting back?”

Selena opened her mouth but couldn’t find the words. She hesitated, knowing that while Everett could be ruthless, he wasn’t one to lie. If he was behind all this, he wouldn’t be denying it now. His faults were always laid bare.

Under her silence, Everett studied her pale face, and suddenly, it clicked. He asked, “Is this why you’re so hell-bent on divorcing me?”

Selena stayed quiet, her eyes flickering, clearly indicating he had hit the nail on the head.

Everett nodded, a frustrated laugh escaping him, “You’re really something, you know that? Playing the victim like a pro.”

She’d been acting out all because of some unfounded accusation. Was there anyone better at making a scene than her?
