The room was quiet, filled only with the gentle rhythm of their breathing.

For a brief moment, it was as if their recent arguments had never happened, and they were back to being as in love as ever. Everett found himself unexpectedly yearning for this peacefulness, wishing it could last forever.

Both were drenched in sweat, wrapped in a mix of scents that was hard to describe. Selena felt uncomfortable and, with a bit of regained strength, pushed Everett’s arm away and tried to stand up to take a shower. But as soon as her feet hit the ground, they wobbled uncontrollably, barely able to support her, let alone walk.

She couldn't help but mutter a curse under her breath.

Everett, the target of her frustration, just chuckled softly. He got up, easily scooped Selena into his arms, and carried her to the bathroom. He gently set her in the bathtub, filling it with perfectly warm water, and started splashing water over her as if he intended to wash her himself.

Selena wasn’t having any of it. She pointed a delicate finger toward the bathroom door, her voice hoarse yet firm, “I don’t need your help. Out!”

Everett’s voice was low and husky, carrying a teasing magnetism, “I’m just worried you might slip and drown. How could I let that happen?”

What a convenient excuse!

Selena was fuming again, her words slipping out unchecked. “This is all because you were too rough!” She felt as though she was falling apart.

Everett’s gaze darkened at her words.

Realizing too late that she’d misspoken, Selena wished she could bite her tongue. Why did she have to argue with him now? Better yet, she shouldn’t say a single word.
