Everett's brow furrowed, a bad feeling creeping in, "Keep talking."

"Your wife is that famous Reporter S, who vanished for three years and just returned to the journalism scene a month ago, causing quite a buzz..."

Derick's voice dropped to nearly a whisper, "The reason Margot couldn’t appear on Ink & Insight was because your wife turned her down. When you had me negotiate with the magazine to get Margot on the magazine, it was indirectly... a slap in your wife's face..."

He finished his sentence, practically shaking.

Everett hung up the phone. His gaze was dark and distant, only snapping back when the cigarette burned his fingers. The woman he'd been married to for three years wasn't just some empty-headed socialite but a skilled journalist.
