She agreed so quickly that it left Everett feeling a bit miffed. He remembered how, in the past, every time he planned a night out, she'd get upset. She’d drop hints for him to come back early because she was worried some other woman might catch his eye.

Everett didn't let his feelings show. Instead, he casually walked over and lifted her right off the couch.

Surprised and suddenly airborne, Selena instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck. "Everett, what are you doing?"

He carried her toward the dressing room. "I worry you might not sleep well without me around, so why not come along?"

Selena squirmed, "I... I can't..."

Ignoring her protests, he set her down and chuckled softly. "Are you going to change yourself, or should I lend a hand?"

He reached to unbutton her nightgown.

Selena, unable to match his playful stubbornness, bit her lip. "I'll do it myself!"
