The whole kidnapping ordeal really opened her eyes to the harsh truth. She realized she didn't want to waste any more time on Everett. Divorcing him seemed like the only sensible solution.
He was indifferent and uninterested in their baby, but she knew she could raise their child on her own. She'd make sure to give their little one everything they needed.
"Impossible!" Everett's handsome face darkened in disbelief. How could she talk about divorce now? "Selena, you're carrying my child, and yet you want to split up?"
He thought things between them had returned to normal. Selena didn't understand his anger, and she shot back without hesitation, "Everett, you have another woman and another kid. Why can't you just let me go?"
She paused, something clicking in her mind, and her eyes filled with a mix of resentment. "If it's my body you're after, well, sorry, Mr. Everett, but I can't accommodate you now that I'm pregnant. Whatever's left, you can just turn it into cash. Once I get the divorce settlement, I'll pay you back!"
Her words were like a line in the sand, making it clear she wanted nothing more to do with him, and his anger just kept rising.
"Selena, I've told you over and over, Margot isn't my woman, and her child isn't mine! How many times do I have to say it?"
"You keep bringing this up. What's your deal?" He stood up, anger boiling over, but seeing Selena so frail, he couldn't lash out, leaving him frustrated and staring coldly at her.
Selena's chest heaved with emotion, clearly upset by his words. Her hands clenched and slowly released. After a brief silence, her voice softened, "Everett, come closer. I want to look at you."
Hearing this, the fire in Everett's chest dimmed a little. He figured she was still dazed from just waking up, and with the pregnancy and all, it was normal for her emotions to be all over the place.
As her husband, he really shouldn't be quarreling over these things.
Everett walked to the bed and leaned in closer.
