"Dr. Campbell... you, I..." Selena's words caught in her throat, unsure how to spill them out.

By all accounts, Callum and Everett were brothers. Sure, they might have clashed over Margot, but when it came to other matters, they usually had each other's backs. Just like how Jaime always stood by Everett, no matter what.

But Callum got where she was coming from. "Selena, you've been through so much in this marriage. Everett's my brother, yeah, but you're also my... good friend!"

Selena's long lashes trembled, her eyes getting a bit misty. A rush of gratitude warmed her from head to toe. After a moment, she sniffed and gently shook her head. "I've leaned on you too much already."

Helping her might put him at odds with Everett, and it could have consequences for him or the Campbell family. She couldn't just accept his help without thinking about it; she didn’t want to drag any of her caring friends into it.

Usually, Callum was the master of his emotions, but right now, a look of undeniable loss clouded his eyes. His hand slowly dropped, his fingers tightening bit by bit. "I really wish... you'd lean on me."

His voice was so soft Selena barely caught it. She asked gently, "What was that?"

Callum opened his mouth to reply, but Ava's voice cut in from behind, "Ma'am, Dr. Campbell, there you are."

She sounded like she’d been running, a bit out of breath. "Ma'am, it's time for your meds."

Hearing this, Selena nodded, "Alright."

Then she turned to Callum, "Dr. Campbell, I should head back. Thanks for getting me out in the sun, for chatting, for cheering me up. Once I'm all better, dinner’s on me!"

Callum swallowed back whatever he was about to say and gave her a tender smile. "Alright, I'll be waiting."
