Chapter 298 novel Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire
The closer people are, the more they know exactly which words will cut the deepest.
Everett's lip twitched slightly as he coldly and indifferently spat out a single word, “Leave!”
A chill ran down Jaime's spine, and he instinctively took a step back. He knew all too well that poking at Everett's sore spots could get him sent packing in a heartbeat! But still...
Something nagged at him, and he decided to stick it out. “Your Majesty, I’m risking my neck here, but I’ve got to speak my mind!”
Taking a deep breath, he let out the speech he’d rehearsed, “Honestly, keeping your wife cooped up like this isn’t helping patch things up between you two. It’s just widening the gap. You can’t keep her locked away forever, right?”
Jaime’s voice softened as he gently placed a hand on Everett's shoulder. Seeing no resistance, he felt a bit more at ease.
“Everett, what’s going on between you and your sister-in-law is just a misunderstanding. You don’t need to resort to such extreme measures. Women, whether they’re young girls or grandmothers, need patience and gentle persuasion. Trust me, women are emotional creatures; a little humility and you can win any of them back! Plus, you both have a child, and kids are the best glue for any relationship!”
Jaime pulled out his “how-to” book for wooing women from his pocket and placed it on the table with a flourish. “And here’s my secret weapon, just for you. Use it wisely!”
Everett glanced at the book and let out a dismissive laugh, “Who put you up to this?”
Jaime didn’t flinch, “This is straight from the heart. I just can’t stand by and watch you mess things up!”
Everett wasn’t buying it. He knew Jaime too well. If Jaime was skilled at anything, it was coming up with harebrained schemes, not heartfelt advice.
With a lazy smirk, Everett said, “You’d better be on your way. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.”
“Got it!” Jaime gave a mock bow fit for a minister before disappearing in the blink of an eye.
Outside the office, he pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
The call connected quickly, and a warm voice answered.
