Callum paused for a moment, then gave an ambiguous smile. "Everett, you're still the same, aren't you?"

Everett didn't bother replying and simply walked away.

Just as he was nearing the hospital room, Jaime appeared out of nowhere, sidling up to whisper with a mischievous grin."Everett, I saw everything!"

Everett shoved him away with disdain. "Get lost!"

Jaime didn't seem to mind, nudging Everett's arm playfully as he continued, "You stood up for your girl by putting Rebecca in her place, clearly showing you don't buy Rebecca's nonsense. So why did you insist Selena apologize?"

"Could it be... you're one of those do-gooders who hide their good deeds and don't seek recognition?"

Everett couldn't be bothered, not sparing Jaime even a glance.

Jaime, rubbing his chin thoughtfully, made a teasing noise, "Knowing you, you're anything but a softie, so there's only one explanation!"

He caught up with Everett again, cupping his hands around his mouth to shout, "You're not jealous, are you?"

Selena had been giving Everett the cold shoulder lately, and her resolve about the divorce was only getting stronger. Puzzled, Everett even asked about the earliest age for menopause.

It was only natural that after backing her up, seeing her beam at another guy would set his jealousy ablaze. Otherwise, he wouldn't have given Callum a heads-up earlier.

Everett abruptly stopped, his dark eyes cutting over to Jaime as he calmly asked, "How much have you had to drink?"

The sudden question threw Jaime off, prompting a reflexive, "I haven't had a drop. Didn't get the chance."

The party ended before it even began, and they missed the meal.

"If you're spouting nonsense sober, maybe you should hit the ER tonight for a brain check. I'll cover the bill."

Jaime was stunned. He choked for a few seconds, unwilling to back down, but seeing his friend's icy stare, he wisely bit his tongue.
