Selena was caught off guard when Everett returned earlier than expected. Her first instinct was to bolt for the door as fast as she could.

Everett couldn't help but smirk, feeling a mix of frustration and amusement. He knew Selena couldn't sit still. Now that she was back on her feet after the postpartum period, her adventurous spirit was in full swing again.

He stepped out of the car, quickly closing the distance with his long strides, and grabbed her wrist in one swift motion.

Selena fought back, trying to shake him off and even attempting to kick him, completely unconcerned about how she looked. Her kick left two dusty footprints on Everett’s suit pants. Under the watchful eyes of onlookers, his patience wore thin. Not wanting to engage in a public scuffle, he hoisted her over his shoulder and marched toward the mansion.

"Everett, you jerk, put me down!" Selena protested, struggling fiercely.

But it seemed she had pushed him too far this time. With a swift smack on her rear, he ordered, "Enough!"

Selena's cheeks flushed with embarrassment. She was no longer a child, yet he still treated her like one. After how demanding he had been the previous night, she was still sore, and now he showed no mercy. Tears welled up in her eyes, though she couldn't tell if it was from the pain, the humiliation, or pure anger.

Thankfully, the bodyguards had the decency to turn away, sparing her further embarrassment.

Once inside the master bedroom, Everett tossed Selena onto the bed without a hint of gentleness. Leaning over her, he pinned her down, his dark eyes drilling into hers as he demanded, "Where were you trying to run off to, hmm?"

If he hadn't returned when he did, she might have disappeared completely.

Despite her anger, Selena knew she had to keep a cool head. Ignoring him would only make him jump to the worst conclusions, like suspecting she was trying to get birth control.
