Margot's words snapped him back to reality. He rubbed his tired brow, sidestepping her question with one of his own. "What time is it?"

Margot blinked at the unexpected question, but checked her phone anyway. "It's just midnight," she replied.

Midnight.

Everett lifted his gaze, casting a sideways glance at her, his tone indifferent. "William’s birthday is over, then."

Margot wished she could've bitten off her own tongue. She should've said it was half past eleven.

Ignoring her thoughts, he spoke again, "It’s late. You should head back and rest. Time heals all wounds. If you need anything, call Alex."

Margot caught the drift. Despite her injuries, he wasn't going to stay; he was itching to get back to Selena.
