When she saw her boss, Mr. Everett, looking like he'd lost his last friend, she quickly shelved any romantic notions. Clearly, things hadn't gone smoothly. Again.

Everett didn’t seem to register her words at first, his eyes fixed blankly on the morning sun outside. After a beat, he rasped out, “Why would she rather be Callum’s secret lover than come back to me?”

From what she could see, his wife had clearly moved on with Callum. They’d been together for three years, rock steady. Naturally, she wouldn’t want to look back.

After weighing her words carefully, she replied, “Mr. Everett, I’m sure she has her reasons. But! She’s still officially single, right? She and Callum haven’t publicly announced their relationship. As long as they’re not married, there’s still a chance, right?”
