Selena knew there was no way she could just up and take her child from here. Even though she hadn't spotted anyone standing guard on her way in, she was well aware that just because she didn't see them, didn't mean they weren't there. Bill and his crew were definitely lurking in the shadows, keeping a close eye.

Little Mateo looked up at his mom with teary eyes, terrified she'd leave him alone again. He didn't like that woman, and he definitely didn't want to be someone else's son.

Selena closed her eyes for a moment before gently placing Mateo back on the bed. She stroked his little head softly, comforting him, "Be a good boy, Mateo. Mommy and... Daddy need to have a chat. Can you wait for Mommy, okay?"

Mateo hesitated, but he was a sensible kid. Even though he didn't want to, he nodded slightly, tears still in his eyes.

Only then did Selena turn to Everett, "Let's find somewhere else to talk."

Adult stuff shouldn't weigh on a child. Mateo was sharp for his age, and some things just weren't meant for his ears.

Everett agreed without a fuss. He clasped Selena's wrist, and before she could even react, he had whisked her into the master bedroom next door.

With the door shut, the tall, strong man pinned the delicate woman against the cabinet. Everett's long fingers gripped Selena's chin, his dark eyes narrowing as he examined her, a flicker of displeasure in his gaze.

"Selena, you come to see me without even a swipe of lipstick, yet when you're going on dates with other guys, you dress to the nines. Quite the double standard you've got there!"

Selena almost rolled her eyes. High standards from the ex, she thought.

His body was burning hot against hers, his warmth and breath seemed to slowly engulf her, leaving her uneasy. Selena steadied herself and tried to push him away, "Everett, weren't we supposed to talk? Let me go, and we can have a proper conversation."

It was as if he couldn't hear her, his dark eyes locked on her bare face. Not a trace of makeup, and while her natural beauty was undeniable, he was still jealous that she'd dress up meticulously for a date with Callum but treat him so casually.

Suddenly, he dipped his head and bit her lip.
