For some reason, she couldn't shake the feeling that his timing was just too perfect. She had planned to sneak into the engagement party, keeping a low profile and not stirring up any drama. She just wanted to see her son and get a sense of who Jenny really was.

As a mom, she needed to figure out the character of her son's soon-to-be stepmom, especially since she hadn't secured custody yet. Her son would have to get along with this woman for now.

She hesitated for a moment.

Callum glanced at her, a flicker of curiosity in his eyes. "Is something up?"

Selena absentmindedly stirred her coffee, her thick lashes casting shadows over her eyes as she pondered how to politely decline. But with the recent complications involving Everett, her relationship with Dr. Campbell had become increasingly tangled.

Plus, with Gabriel always opposing them, his sudden willingness to meet her must have taken a lot of effort on Callum's part. It would seem pretty rude to turn it down now.

Since she had agreed to give Callum a fair shot, she couldn't just back out now. That wouldn't be fair to him.

At worst, she could rush to the engagement party after meeting Gabriel. Surely, the party wouldn't wrap up too early...

After a bit of thinking, Selena cleared her eyes of any emotion and shook her head at Callum. "Nope, not at all."

"Meeting Gabriel is quite an honor for me."

Callum's smile broadened, and in that moment, it felt like all the walls between them crumbled. He caught a glimpse of her trying to reach out to him.

As a gentle rain began to fall outside, Callum insisted on driving Selena home, and she went along with it.

When they reached Brook's house, Selena unfastened her seatbelt, ready to step out, but Callum's warm hand suddenly clasped her shoulder.
