Since Blaine had come back, there was no way to keep this under wraps any longer. Alexa had been gone for over two months, surely finding a safe place by now. The world is vast, and no matter how mighty Blaine might be, his influence couldn't stretch everywhere.

Selena brought Blaine into the living room, sat him on the sofa, and poured him a cup of coffee. She handed it over with a sense of foreboding. Blaine’s eyes darkened as he guessed what was happening. He looked at the coffee with a cold glance but didn’t take it. “Don’t tell me you let Alexa go and think this coffee will make up for it, expecting me to forgive you.”

Selena sighed, feeling at a loss. She’d hesitated earlier, unsure whether to lie to Blaine or come clean. Ultimately, she knew honesty was the best policy. With Blaine’s sharp mind, any lie would unravel quickly. It was better to be upfront and reason with him.

Setting the cup down, she cleared her throat and began, “Uncle, these past six months have been chaotic. Abraham and Joy have turned my life upside down. Joy tried to bribe Alexa to betray me, but she didn’t.”

“She claimed it was because she appreciated my help, but I could see it was because of you.”

“Even if it meant going separate ways, she didn’t want to hurt your family.”

“Blaine, let the grudges from the past end here. Alexa won’t be in your life anymore. Let her go. It’s time for you to move on.”

Blaine’s fists clenched tightly. “And what about the child?”

Selena paused, choosing a kinder lie, “The child isn’t yours, so Alexa feels even more ashamed to face you.”

This was something Alexa had asked her to say, hoping it would help Blaine move on. Though it was harsh, it was better than him being consumed by anger, harming both himself and others, wasting precious time.

Even if Blaine doubted the child was his, hearing it confirmed still shook him, the veins on his forehead standing out. Seeing his reaction, Selena’s heart raced, and she held back from saying anything more.

After a long silence, he finally spoke, his voice rough and strained, “Did she leave any message for me?”

Selena replied quietly, “She hopes you never meet again, in life or death.”

Blaine shut his eyes tightly, caught between anger and bitter self-mockery. “She better mean it and never show up again. I’ll consider her dead; otherwise…”

He didn’t finish, but Selena understood. If they met again, it would likely spell disaster...

Later that night, Selena cuddled with her daughter Haley in bed, reading a bedtime story. Haley, a bit distracted, looked up at her mom with wide eyes. “Why doesn’t Uncle Blaine smile? Is he sad?”

Haley hadn’t seen Blaine much, but he adored her, often playing with her. Plus, Blaine was handsome, so Haley was quite fond of him.

Selena gently stroked her daughter’s hair, thought for a moment, and sighed, “What is love, really? It just breaks your heart.”

Haley didn’t understand, tilting her head in contemplation.
