Selena spotted Everett and found herself torn between anger and disbelief. She had gone all the way from Newport to Northtown just to escape him, yet here he was, like a bad penny that just wouldn't disappear.

Rhett saw Everett too and couldn't help but scowl. It wasn't that he lacked manners; it was just that Mr. Everett had an uncanny ability to show up uninvited every time Rhett managed to get some alone time with Selena. He was about ready to develop PTSD from it.

Selena's face was icy as she firmly told him, “This isn't a good time.” She glanced around the restaurant, noticing plenty of empty tables and private booths. Why did he have to crowd in on them?

Rhett chimed in quickly, “Mr. Everett, there's an open seat right next to ours. Why not sit over there?”

Everett ignored him, dragging a chair over and plopping down right beside Selena. His arm draped over the back of her chair, a not-so-subtle claim of territory.

Rhett's eyes widened, almost grinding his teeth, “Mr. Everett, what’s your game here?”

Everett cracked a smile, “Rhett, this is your turf, and I’ve come all the way from Newport. As the local, shouldn’t you be extending some hospitality? Besides, I’ve got quite the rapport with your family.”

Rhett was left speechless. He'd never encountered someone so brazen. Here was the head honcho of Bennett Corporation, Newport's top dog, acting like a complete cad.

Everett couldn’t care less about Rhett’s opinion. All he knew was that whatever happened between him and Selena was their business, and he wasn’t about to let someone else muscle in.

Selena had had enough, “Everett, stop it already!” She was fed up with his antics. Rhett, despite his good intentions, was no match for Everett's audacity. This meal was doomed with Everett's presence; eating would be a chore, not a pleasure.
