Selena gently furrowed her brow, feeling a bit uneasy. She had always believed that the best way to handle being an ex was to steer clear and not disrupt each other's lives. Yet, despite her initial reservations, she found herself warming up to Mila. Unlike Everett's previous partners, Mila had never caused any drama or chaos in front of her.

Now that Mateo was spending most of his time with Everett, Selena knew that once Everett and Mila tied the knot, her son would inevitably have to spend time with Mila too. For Mateo's sake, Selena realized it was crucial to at least keep things civil with Mila.

Living in Newport meant she couldn't avoid these social gatherings. Maintaining her composure and dignity was better than hiding away, preventing any gossip that could affect her kids. With a resigned smile, she agreed, "Alright, I'll be there."

Mila was thrilled. "Great! I'll send over the invitation soon. Looking forward to having you."

After hanging up, Selena returned to trimming her flowers. Ava, who had overheard the conversation, brought over a fruit platter. "Are you sure about attending that New Year's Eve party, ma'am? Who knows what that woman might be planning?"

Selena chuckled, "We'll deal with whatever comes our way."

She paused, pondering, "But there's something about this Ms. Ruby... she seems different and oddly familiar."

Ava asked, "Familiar how?"

Selena thought back, "She kind of reminds me of... Carolina."

"Really?" Ava mused before adding, "I bet Carolina picked a debutante who looks like her. She's always been a bit full of herself."
