Chapter 128

“Not yet. She’s made an appointment. Let me check the timing.” After a few seconds, Nora added, “It’s scheduled for 11:00 a.m.”
I glanced at the clock. It was already 10:00a.m.
“Did she say why?” I asked.
“No, she just said she didn’t want it anymore and signed the papers alone. Since the baby is over three months old and has taken shape, she’ll need an induced abortion.”
Although I wasn’t a mother, the thought unsettled me deeply.
“Try to postpone it,” I urged. “I’ll contact Logan.”
“Are you sure you want to get involved?” Nora asked cautiously.
I hesitated for a moment before replying, “She decided this after meeting me last night. Who knows what Logan might think if I don’t tell him? Besides… this baby is lan’s only bloodline left in the world.”
After ending the call with Nora, I immediately dialed Logan. He didn’t pick up, likely ignoring my calls after my rejection.
Just as I considered calling him from another number, he finally answered, his tone icy. “Hello?”
“Selene is at the hospital for an abortion,” I said bluntly.
There was silence on the other end of the line.
“The procedure is scheduled in an hour. If you hurry, you might make it in time,” I added before hanging up.
Despite informing Logan, I couldn’t shake my unease. I decided to head to the hospital myself.
When I arrived at the parking lot, I spotted Logan rushing toward the obstetrics and pediatrics building. His expression was a mix of anxiety and fear.
I quickly followed him but was stopped by Nora before I could reach the consultation room.
“Has she changed her mind?” I asked.
Nora didn’t answer right away. Instead, she pulled me aside. “There’s tea. You should hear this first.”
She dragged me near the emergency exit, where I could hear Logan and Selene arguing.
“Why are you aborting the baby? That’s lan’s last remaining bloodline! Who gave you the right to make this decision?” Logan’s voice thundered.
“You should understand why I’m doing this. I want to be with you–that’s why,” Selene replied bluntly, her usual gentle tone replaced with cold determination.
Logan fell silent, and Selene continued, her voice softening. “Logan, I know your family will never accept my baby, and neither will lan’s parents. So what’s the point of keeping it?”
“If you abort it, we’ll lose the last shred of lan,” Logan said, his voice trembling.
“But I can’t be with you if I have this baby. What should I do?” Selene’s voice was almost pleading.
It was then I truly saw how selfish a person could be.

“Did you really think we’d be together, whether or not you kept the baby?” Logan asked sharply.
Through the slight gap in the door, I saw Selene reach out to tug on Logan’s shirt, but he stepped back. “You know who I want, Selene.”
