Izzy ended the call without another word. Samantha’s voice grated her nerves. It was clear that she told them the call was recorded yet, they still acted like what she expected them to. How predictably boring, she thought inwardly.
She set her phone down beside her plate and picked up her wine glass, swirling the deep red liquid before taking a sip. Across from her, Atty. Alcaraz chuckled as she leaned back in her chair, shaking her head in amusement.
“Remind me never to get on your bad side,” the lawyer said, setting down her fork. “You’re really something else, Izzy.”
Izzy blinked at her, tilting her head slightly. Then she smiled–soft, innocent, almost too sweet.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” she said as she picked up a bite of her steak. “Besides, they’re the ones who keep digging themselves deeper.” They already know about the lawsuit. By now, Cecil must have already abandoned them. Yet, they still thought they could get something out of this!? Greed has blinded them.
Atty. Alcaraz laughed again and took a sip of her own wine. They were dining in a private section of a high–end hotel restaurant, where the lighting was warm, the service impeccable, and the atmosphere quiet enough for business discussions.
As Izzy placed her fork down, she thought back to the call. She never expected Samantha to involve herself this much.
Monica was already desperate, but Samantha…
Samantha had influence. A real following. If Monica was smart, she would use that. She would milk this scandal for every penny, push it into every corner of the internet, and make sure Izzy’s name never left the headlines.
That was fine.
Izzy wasn’t worried.
“Now,” Atty. Alcaraz said, wiping her lips with a napkin. “Monica’s taken care of. But what about Calen?”
Izzy tapped her fingers against the table, her gaze dropping slightly.
Monica was being punished. That was inevitable.
But Calen?
A slow, calculating thought settled in her mind.
“I’m going to take away what he wants the most,” she finally said.
Atty. Alcaraz raised an eyebrow. “And that would be?”
Izzy lifted her wine glass again, her eyes gleaming under the soft restaurant lights. Calen’s dream had always been to inherit the company. He had spent his entire life chasing after his father’s approval, positioning himself as the rightful heir to Weiss
Inc.
But what happens if I take that from him?
A ruthless move, but wasn’t that what he and his mother tried to do to her?
They wanted to force her into a marriage she didn’t want. They wanted to strip her of her career, her autonomy, and her choices.

So she would return the favor.
Izzy set her glass down, her decision made.
Retribution. That’s what this is.
Atty. Alcaraz smirked slightly as if she already knew what Izzy was planning. “You really don’t hold back, do you?”
Izzy simply smiled.
The lawyer took another sip of wine, then leaned in slightly. “And what about Liam?”
Izzy stilled for a brief moment before she reached for her knife, slicing it into the last piece of steak on her plate.
“Liam?” she repeated, her mind drifting to her husband, who had just left the U.S. for business. By now, he should be in Europe with his grandfather.
The thought lingered longer than she expected. For the first time since they got married, Liam had left the country. She blinked, suddenly aware of the strange weight in her chest. Wait… why was she being so emotional about this? She silently chastised herself.
“You’ve told me your plans for Monica, for Calen… but what does he think of all this?”
Izzy cut through the steak effortlessly. “He seems fine with it.”
Atty. Alcaraz hummed, watching her. “And inwardly?”
Izzy’s knife hesitated, just for a second.
Inwardly…
She wasn’t sure.

She knew Liam supported her, but would he think she was cruel? Would he think she was no better than the people she was punishing?
Izzy placed the knife down, pushing her plate slightly forward. “Liam trusts me,” she said.
Atty. Alcaraz smirked. “I didn’t ask if he trusts you, Izzy. I asked if he knows just how far you’re willing to go.”
Izzy didn’t respond immediately.
Because deep down, she was afraid of the answer.
Liam grew up with her. He had been behind her since this all started. But she wasn’t exactly sure about his thoughts.
“Miss Maria?”
The voice pulled Izzy out of her thoughts. She looked up to see a well–dressed man approaching their table. He was tall, with sharp, familiar European features.
Atty. Alcaraz’s eyebrows lifted in mild surprise before she stood up, extending her hand. “What a coincidence.”
The man took her hand and shook it firmly. “It’s been a while,” he said.

Atty. Alcaraz smiled and gestured toward Izzy. “This is Isabella-”
Before she could finish, Izzy stood up smoothly and extended her hand.
“Isabella Horvath,” she said with ease.

Atty. Alcaraz blinked, but she quickly masked her reaction. Instead, she gave a slight nod, her expression unreadable.
The man took Izzy’s hand in a firm shake.
“Frederik Vasili,” he introduced himself. “Pleasure to meet you.”
Izzy withdrew her hand and sat back down, her posture poised.
Frederik turned to Atty. Alcaraz. “I didn’t expect to run into you here,” he said, glancing at the elegant restaurant. “Do you mind if I join you?”
Izzy met Atty. Alcaraz’s gaze, silently letting the lawyer decide.
In response, Atty. Alcaraz chuckled and gestured toward an empty chair. “Why not?”
Frederik took the seat, signaling for the waiter. “I hope I’m not interrupting anything important.”
Atty. Alcaraz leaned back slightly. “Just catching up. It’s been a busy week.”
