Chapter 91
ג
“What do you mean you can’t find her?” Calen shot Albert a sharp glare. “I told you she’s in her office.”
Albert hesitated, shifting uncomfortably. “But the guard said-”
Calen’s jaw tightened, his patience wearing thin. He had spent the entire day drowning in work, and now his secretary couldn’t locate one person. One person in the entire of Macau. Just how big was Macau? It was damn smaller than Los Angeles!
“Sir,” Albert began cautiously. “Is it possible ‘that… Miss Rossi might be hiding-
– “Stop,” Calen snapped, cutting him off. His eyes darkened, the tension in the room thick. “Why on earth would she be
hiding? She’s supposed to be working.”
“Well, maybe she’s-” Albert hesitated. “She’s hiding from you? Perhaps she-”
“Izzy is hiding from me?” Calen cut Albert off sharply, slamming his hand on the table. Papers fluttered as his secretary flinched. “Don’t be absurd! Why would she need to hide? She has a job to do, and so do you, Albert!”
“I checked her office three times,” Albert stammered. “The- The security confirmed she left the premises earlier this afternoon, but no one saw where she went.”
Calen rose from his chair abruptly, the scrape of wood against the floor loud in the otherwise silent room. His broad shoulders tensed as he rounded the desk. “A whole day wasted,” he muttered, more to himself than to Albert. “It’s her birthday, for God’s sake. And I’m stuck here with unfinished work while you run around like a headless chicken.”
Albert swallowed hard. “Sir, I-”
“Save it,” Calen snapped, his voice colder now. He grabbed his coat from the back of his chair and shrugged it on. “She didn’t leave for no reason. And if she’s not answering her phone, there’s only one explanation.”
Albert stepped back, startled by the icy fury in his employer’s eyes. “Sir, you have documents to sign, and there’s a meeting tonight with the US Team. If you leave now-”
“I don’t care about the damn meeting!” Calen barked, his temper slipping further. He brushed past Albert, his steps heavy as he strode toward the door. “Reschedule it. I’ll deal with it tomorrow.”
“But, sir-”
“I said tomorrow!” Calen’s voice thundered through the office. He threw the door open, leaving Albert to gape after him.
The moment he reached the lobby, Calen barked at his driver to prepare the car. Sliding into the backseat, he leaned forward, his fingers digging into the leather headrest in front of him. “To Izzy’s office,” he ordered, his voice tight.
“Yes, sir.” The driver pulled into the flow of traffic, the city lights blurring past as Calen stared out the window.
His father’s interference was beginning to wear on him. Izzy was supposed to work in the same building as him, but Liam and his father agreed that it would be best for her to work with Liam. Izzy had been working out of the building Liam Horvath had specifically arranged for her–a sleek, modern space that served as her independent domain, which was somehow next to Liam’s office! How could he accept the fact that instead of letting Izzy work in the same building as Calen, his father actually approved of Liam’s idea!? Apparently, it was to avoid conflicts of interest.
In reality, Calen knew, it was just another way for his father to control things while giving Izzy more authority. More

visibility. More… importance.
The thought grated on his nerves. Izzy was being elevated, praised, and treated like a prized asset while he was drowning in work designed to keep him tethered to the office. And now, on her birthday of all days, she had vanished–leaving him to wonder if she was with someone else.
“Liam,” Calen hissed under his breath, his grip tightening on the headrest. His thoughts spiraled. It had to be him. That
smug,
insufferable man had been circling Izzy for weeks now, finding every excuse to linger near her.
The car came to a smooth stop outside Izzy’s office. Calen stepped out without waiting for the adjusted his coat and strode toward the building, his jaw set and his heart pounding.
driver to open the door. He
He would find her. And when he did, he would ensure Liam Horvath was permanently cut from her life.
But before he could take another step, he immediately saw who he was looking for. Izzy and Liam walked out of the building together, their laughter breaking the stillness of the evening. Calen froze, his fists clenching at his sides as his sharp eyes narrowed on them.
He had suspected Liam all along. This wasn’t a coincidence. Liam had orchestrated everything. The endless pile of documents Cálen had been forced to review today, the sudden demands from the U.S. team for an impromptu meeting- why had it all fallen on Izzy’s birthday? It wasn’t hard to connect the dots, Liam had planned this, pulling strings to distract him while/monopolizing her time.
Calen’s jaw tightened, fury simmering just below the surface. So this is how Liam wanted to play it. He knew that Liam was scheming but he never thought that he would actually do this kind of dirty trick against Calen!
“Izzy!” he called her.
Just as he expected, Izzy stopped and turned toward him.
“Mr. Weiss…” Izzy said. The respectful tone in her voice made him even more irritated.
Calen clenched his fists tightly, the veins on his hands standing out as he forced himself to smile. He stepped closer, holding the velvet box in plain view. “Izzy,” he said, “I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday and give you this.”
Izzy’s eyes flicked to the box. Her brows lifted slightly, but her expression remained neutral. “Thank you for the greeting, Mr. Weiss,” she said, inclining her head politely. “But I can’t accept your gift. It would be unprofessional.”
