Chapter 871 Pre-Wedding
Just as he got in the car, ready to drive home, Calvin Faber got a call from Shayna.
"Calvin Faber, when are you going to meet my mother? Don't tell me you haven't gotten up yet!"
With the way she was behaving, others would think Shayna was crazy but Calvin Faber understood that she was just nervous and afraid of messing up the wedding.
"I went for a quick drive baby. Why are you up so early? Have you eaten?" Calvin Faber asked feigning ignorance about the drama at home.
His questions however made Shayna more annoyed. “Why would you abandon me on the morning of our wedding? I'm here working my ass off to get things in place but you're out there enjoying your so-called ride. You have just ten minutes to come back here or else I'm calling off the wedding.”
"Baby, listen to me,” Calvin Faber said, trying to calm her down but she had already hung up the phone.
Calvin Faber put down the phone angrily on the passenger seat and stepped on the gas to try to get home as fast as he could.
But despite how much he sped, he was caught up for a while in the traffic jam that had formed in the corner before the block on which the house was located. By the time he arrived, he was surprised to see her leaning back on the gate and immediately he rushed to her but not before grabbing the bag and roses and concealing them behind him.
Shayna was boiling with rage when the car pulled up beside her but when Calvin Faber stepped out panicking, with sweat covering his forehead, her rage cleared and she let out a soft chuckle at how helpless he looked.
Calvin Faber laughed as well and took out the roses and bag from behind him and handed it to her. "I'm sorry I got you worried. Her a got you a peace offering, a rose. I hope it makes you want to stop being angry at me."
Shayna collected the rose from him and sniffed its scent. She was no angrier and couldn't help feeling a little sorry for Calvin Faber.
"Why are you sweating so much?" Shayna said, wiping the sweat from his brow with her sleeve.
Calvin Faber saw Shayna's appearance and knew that she was no more annoyed with him. To show his happiness, he grabbed her moist palm and kissed it.
"C'mon, let's go inside and have breakfast. I bought you a bag, I hope you like it?" Shayna nodded.
The maid saw that Shayna was now calm and gave Mr. Faber a thumbs up. She also couldn't understand why Shayna, who was usually friendly, had suddenly become hard to please these few days.
"Have I been too aggressive recently?" Shayna asked, looking up at Calvin Faber, who nodded slowly. “Honestly, I don't know what's wrong. Little things upset me and whenever I think of the responsibilities that would come with our marriage, I always feel uneasy. But after seeing you, I feel pretty good and at ease.”
Calvin Faber smiled at her and hugged him. "Baby, it's nothing. Sometimes don't think too much, but if you happen to do, just know I'm here." He kissed her on the forehead.” I know you're nervous. I'm also nervous, but I read it online and people say it's a normal thing."
"Well, thank God. I thought I was crazy."
"I like it when you're crazy," Calvin Faber suddenly teased.
Shayna pushed him away playfully, laughing. The idea of starting a life of her own with Calvin was just scary to her as she had lived comfortably since she was a child. She had never been troubled by family or life. But now she knew that the time of living carefree was a few hours from being over.
"We have all the time in the world to ourselves but first let's focus on arranging the wedding. When this is over, I'll show you how naughty and crazy I can get on the bed," Shayna said, whispering the last part and accompanying it was a seductive bite of her lower lips.
Apart from Calvin Faber and Shayna, another busy person was Melissa. She always felt that Shayna was her Jill, so she wanted the best for her and to show that desire, she went around making sure all was in order.
Shayna and Calvin Faber hurriedly drove Melissa to the hospital without delay. Shayna was teary all through the ride as she was afraid that something would happen to Melissa.
"Sorry, Melissa, I've been putting you through so much work recently," Shayna said, holding Melissa's hand tightly.
Melissa also held Shayna’s hand back, and said lovingly, "Don't say that. I'm only here because I want to and whatever is happening to me has nothing to do with you."
Calvin Faber saw there was too much tension and tried to liven up the atmosphere, "Shayna, stop saying that we are the ones that hurt Melissa. If Murray hears that we hurt her, we both have to run away to another country,"
Melissa burst out laughing. Gradually the pain began to subside.
It took barely ten minutes to arrive at the hospital. Melissa was put through a series of tests by the doctor. Shayna, however, kept pacing the corridor despite Calvin's pleas for her to join him on a bench.
She couldn't stop blaming himself. She suddenly remembered that one of her classmates worked there, and hurriedly turned around and walked to the bathroom to make a call.
"Hello, am I speaking with Joey Collins?"
"Who's asking?” The voice on the other end of the phone was a little unclear.
“I'm Shayna. I have a friend who has come to the obstetrics department. Are you still working here?"
Perhaps Shayna sounded a little too anxious, as it made Joey Collins get up and rush back to the hospital. Joey Collins had just gotten off the night shift and had not been in bed for barely an hour. But he hurried to the hospital and was surprised to see Shayna.
