“Drape a stone in silk and jewels, and it still won’t become a gem,” Dustin said indifferently.

As soon as he said that, Phoebe’s face darkened.

Everyone could tell the remark was a jab at her.

“Who do you think you are? How dare you show up here? This isn’t a place for the likes of you. Someone, get him out of here!” she ordered coldly.

Her lackeys leaped into action and stormed toward Dustin in menace.

Dustin remained unfazed but waved his hand abruptly.

“Ah—!”

Thud! Thud! Thud!

The lackeys were thrown back like rag dolls and rolled across the ground in a heap. Their faces were bruised and battered.

The spectacle stunned the students at the ball.

“Looks like Irene’s date is quite something,” someone murmured.

“A bunch of fools!” Phoebe spat angrily.

Dustin turned to Irene. “Sorry for the delay. I had something urgent to take care of.”

“It’s okay. You’re here now. That’s all that matters,” Irene said and shook her head.

She turned to look at Phoebe. “Phoebe, my date is here. Why the rush to kick him out? Are you afraid of losing the bet?”

“Afraid? Of him?” said Phoebe and scoffed. “Do you really think someone like him is worth my time? I’m just worried for your sake. Losing so miserably in front of everyone will be quite the spectacle.”

Dustin frowned slightly.

“Losing? What are we supposed to be competing in?” he asked Irene softly.

Embarrassment flashed across her face.

“Sorry, I didn’t explain earlier... We made a bet to have a dance-off at the ball,” she said. “I figured, since you’re so capable, even if your dance skills aren’t that great, you could still make do.”

Dustin blinked in surprise.

A dance-off?

Admittedly, Phoebe had a solid foundation in dancing, and her curvaceous figure paired well with the sensual rhythm of Latin moves. Many of the male students could not tear their eyes away from her.

Her partner was equally impressive. He executed each move with precision and power. The two danced in perfect sync, and their performance was undeniably captivating.

Midway through, they shifted styles seamlessly into a lively tango, which energized the crowd even more.

Phoebe’s confident smile grew. She was certain of her victory, especially when she noticed Dustin and Irene standing motionlessly on the other side of the ballroom. Her smirk deepened.

Meanwhile, Dustin and Irene exchanged an awkward glance.

“What kind of dance do you know?” Irene asked in a hushed voice.

“I know a little of everything,” Dustin said.

Irene was speechless.

People who said that usually knew nothing at all.

“I’ll lead. Just try to be flexible and follow my movements. Let’s at least try not to embarrass ourselves too much...” she said with a sigh.

Taking his hand, she guided him into the rhythm of the dance.
