The icy water instantly submerged my face and mouth.

"Sweetheart!" "Daughter!"

James and my parents rushed over, panicked.

The water splashed up violently, and James swam toward me quickly.

I struggled and reached out my hand, but then I saw him swim past me, reaching out for Gina instead.

Then, my parents struggled to pull her out of the water at the poolside.

I forced a bitter smile, retracting my hand, and allowed myself to sink further.

As my consciousness began to fade, James returned and dragged me upwards.

I was lying next to Gina on the shore, with my parents calling out to her, urging her to wake up.

Gina slowly opened her eyes and explained, “She suddenly accelerated her wheelchair, and I tried to save her but got dragged down with her…”

The people around us whispered to each other.

“I heard five years ago on her birthday, she was hit by that adopted sister and broke her leg. Sigh, could it be that the scene triggered some bad memories?”

James glanced at me, his eyes showing a hint of guilt.
