Zoe ignored him and walked straight upstairs.

James followed closely behind. “Zoe, let's move to the new house today. I'll pack up.”

Saying this, he rushed past her to open the door.

But when he opened it, the emptiness of the house left him stunned.

“Zoe, where are all our couple's things?”

Zoe replied flatly, “I've thrown them out.”

When their eyes met, James felt a tightness in his chest. He frantically tried to pull her into his arms.

But she dodged him.

Tears were almost falling from his eyes.

“Zoe, did I do something wrong? Why are you doing this?”

“You promised that no matter how angry we get, we wouldn't use silent treatment. I can't stand it.”

Zoe paused in her steps. Did he really remember her birthday wish?

But why did he always use silent treatment every time he was unhappy?

Every time she saw his indifferent face, it felt like a knife was stabbing her heart.

She thought he didn't take her words to heart.

But now it seemed like he just didn't want to follow them.

She sniffled, struggling to hold back her tears.

Only by tightly clenching her fists could she speak calmly. “They're all old. We need new ones.”

Taking advantage of her stillness, James quickly embraced her, his tears wetting her neck.

With a choked voice, he said, “I'll buy you new ones—couple keychains, bracelets, lingerie, and the couple phone you've always wanted. I'll buy them all!”

“Don't be mad at me. Please.”

The pain in Zoe's heart spread through her whole body, and she couldn't hold back her tears any longer.

He remembered.

But he only promised to buy them for her after a year.

This sincerity, after she had been played for so long, made her feel utterly ridiculous.

There had never been a moment when she regretted things more than now.

Seeing her tears, James, thinking she was moved, kissed them away.

He lovingly kissed her lips. “Zoe, from now on, whatever you want, I'll buy it for you. We'll be better and better.”

No, they wouldn't.

They had no future.

In her future, there would be no James.

Zoe was truly exhausted but couldn't sleep.

She sat on the sofa, watching James busy in the kitchen.

“Zoe, I'm making your favorite steak!”

His elegant shirt paired with the apron looked so out of place.

The smile on his face made Zoe's eyes ache.
