“Do you two have plans tomorrow?” he asked, breaking the silence as he lifted his glass back to his lips. The night air was cool, a slight breeze slipping through the air and rustling the trees at the back of his property behind the pool. It was as if the wind whispered to him through the branches, calling him to get lost in their playfulness.
Valerie shook her head, shifting slightly in her chair. “No, I don’t think so. Last I heard, Justin wanted to focus on getting ready for his interviews on Monday.” Richard saw her shrug out of the corner of his eye. “I have no idea how he plans on preparing for an interview. It’s not like they sent him a list of questions or anything.”
Richard laughed, nodding. “That’s Justin. He always wants to be prepared for everything. Maybe he just intends on ironing his clothes and shining his shoes.” He took another sip of his drink as he leaned his head back in his chair. Lowering the glass, he suggested, “Well, I hope you brought your bathing suit, because tomorrow should be a perfect day for the pool. Let Justin do his preparing, whatever that is, and you can keep me company, soaking up the sun and being lazy.”
She laughed softly, nodding her head. “Now, that sounds like fun. I haven’t been swimming in forever it seems. No time at college, and we never had a pool at my folks’ house.”
“Well, now’s your chance,” Richard said. “I’ll swing by the store, pick up some steaks, and we can make a day out of it, grilling by the pool.” He lifted his glass. “And sharing more drinks.” He laughed as he took another swallow.
“Sounds perfect,” Valerie said. She finished her wine and then stood. “I should go see how he’s doing. Maybe I can pry him away from his unpacking long enough to get some sleep.” She stretched, her arms out at her sides, and Richard had to force himself to look away as her breasts poked out, her nipples straining against the fabric of her shirt. “Besides,” she said once she dropped her arms, “I didn’t realize how tired I was until after that glass of wine.” She smiled at him, giving him a soft wave. “See you in the morning. Thanks for everything.”
