Chapter 1544: Ugly

Now it was Ayan's turn to smile.

Ayan furrowed his brows slightly, the corners of his thin lips curved in a faint smile, as if saying to Camille, "See? See? You were just overthinking, right?"

He didn't say it directly, just looked at Camille. In the end, Camille couldn't hold it anymore and raised her hand to cover his eyes. Camille said, "Stop staring at me like that. I feel embarrassed."

Ayan didn't stop her and let her cover his eyes.

Ayan said, "I've already told you not to overthink. You're already overthinking before anything has even started. So, tell me, how should I enlighten you?"

Camille pursed her lips, let go of her hand, and said, "I was joking with you."

Ayan smiled and didn't say anything else, just kept staring at Camille without blinking.

Every time he stared at her like that, Camille would feel particularly nervous, even though they were already an old married couple. But she couldn't resist Ayan's charm.

Camille didn't want him to keep staring at her, so she had to bring up a topic herself.

Camille said, "I want to tell you something."

"Hmm?"

"I went to the hospital this morning to see my grandfather."

Camille brought it up on her own, and Ayan's suspicions faded away.

He thought she might be hiding something from him, but now that she mentioned it voluntarily, there shouldn't be any issues. Camille knew her well. If she had something on her mind, she would feel down and start overthinking.

But Ayan overlooked the fact that Camille would only act like this when it directly concerned her and Dao. Even if it had something to do with Ayan but she didn't know the specifics, she could remain composed.

Ayan quickly snapped out of it and asked in a gentle voice, "Why did you suddenly want to go to the hospital to accompany your grandfather?"

"Just bored. I didn't feel like going to the company today, and there wasn't much to do either. The projects at the company are being taken care of by others now, so I have more free time." She also wanted to spend some of this free time with the old Simpson because unlike them, the old man considered every day he lived as a gain. Especially with the old Simpson's poor health and reaching this age, they wanted him to be happy every single day.

Camille took the opportunity to tell Ayan about the conversation between the old Simpson and Dr. Ellis. She said to Ayan, "I had already opened the door at that time, so I heard it clearly. But I didn't let Grandfather know. Dr. Ellis probably guessed it too. What do you plan to do?"

The old Simpson started doubting his own health condition, which was quite normal and a typical reaction. After staying in the hospital for such a long time without having the surgery done, it was hard for the old Simpson not to think too much.

After listening to Camille, Ayan's expression became serious.

After dinner, Ayan went to the study to talk to Dr. Ellis about the old Simpson's condition, while Camille sat alone in the living room downstairs, lost in thought. She had taken a two-hour nap in the afternoon, so she would probably have trouble sleeping tonight.

Camille sat on the sofa, playing with her phone absentmindedly, and her thoughts subconsciously drifted to Preston.

She wondered if he would continue sending messages.

Preston's message said, "I know you've seen my message, and I know you won't reply, but avoiding it isn't a solution. Some things, even if you avoid them now, you'll have to face them sooner or later."

Preston's words made Camille toss her phone aside. She genuinely doubted if Preston had somehow installed surveillance in her brain. Why did his message arrive immediately after she had just thought of him?
