Chapter 1336: Deception

"Alright," Ayan naturally nodded in agreement.

But there was still a slight crease between his brows, a scene noticed by Kian who was driving. It made Kian feel unsettled, as if a storm was about to descend on him in the next moment. He tried to minimize his presence, wishing he could find a hole to disappear into, to avoid any innocent harm.

The journey felt incredibly long, taking what seemed like ages to return to Franklin Bay.

Upon arrival, Kian immediately got out of the car to open the doors for the two. Camille alighted first, followed closely by Ayan. They entered the house one after the other, with Kian not daring to speak up to stop them. The next steps had to be guessed, as directly asking would surely lead to facing the music.

Inside the villa, Camille went upstairs directly.

Ayan naturally followed back to his room. Camille looked at him and asked, "Don't you have work to do?"

Ayan hesitated and looked at her.

Camille, remaining composed, was unaware of Ayan's thoughts.

Until she noticed Ayan's somewhat downcast mood. He had been sitting on the couch in the room without moving since they returned. Camille, puzzled, asked, "What's wrong with you?"

Ayan met Camille's concerned gaze, his mood growing more complicated.

Camille, still confused, stared at him. Ayan's voice sounded hoarse as he asked, "Are you upset?"

Camille was taken aback and asked, "Why do you ask that?"

Ayan said, "Your attitude towards me has changed." He specifically emphasized that it had changed since Kian mentioned Daisy's arrival in Hance City the next morning.

He looked somewhat aggrieved, which made Camille find it amusing.

Camille laughed and said, "I'm not upset. I was just thinking about what kind of person Daisy is. Considering Tillery Group and Simpson Group are in a cooperative relationship, and Daisy is the representative sent over by Tillery Group, I need to be polite. However, her personal behavior and true intentions make it hard for me to be overly courteous. I'm conflicted about this issue, but it has nothing to do with you."

Camille, devoid of emotions, had agreed to this from the start. Whatever happened during the process, she had to accept it, as it was a decision she and Ayan had made together.

After Camille's explanation, Ayan still found it hard to believe. He felt Camille was upset.

He reached out to Camille, who reciprocated and held his hand, asking softly, "Why do you seem like a little girl now?"

Camille woke up to find Ayan downstairs already.

Kian had arrived and was briefing him on the day's work. During the discussion, he mentioned a name Camille knew. Kian said, "Mr. Simpson, Elijah contacted me. He called at 6 AM this morning and said Preston was looking for him. The reason he knew was that there's a mutual acquaintance between Elijah and Preston, the owner of a hotel near Armstrong Corp. They both know him, and he posted a message on the hotel's public account that Elijah followed."

Elijah hoped Ayan could arrange for Preston to meet him. If there were any issues on Preston's side, Elijah was willing to be upfront about it.

Ayan just sneered and said, "He should still be in prison. Did Preston ask the hotel owner to post the message because he knew he had been released?"

Ayan smiled faintly. Elijah wanted to use him but wasn't willing to prepare any excuses or reasons in advance. Isn't that just deceiving and avoiding the issue?

Initially, Kian didn't realize the flaws in Elijah's words. But upon Ayan's reminder, he quickly grasped the situation and said, "Mr. Simpson, are you suggesting that Elijah may have already contacted Preston? Or Elijah sent some message to Preston, and they've already come to an agreement? Or maybe Elijah asked for something that Preston didn't agree to, leading Elijah to tell me that Preston went to see the hotel owner?"

Ayan indifferently replied, "It's possible. With Preston's current situation, he can hardly protect himself, so where would he find the time to worry about Elijah's affairs? But Elijah has always been the one who takes the initiative with Preston. If this role suddenly changes, if he stops taking the initiative, do you think Preston would feel unsettled?"

For a normal person, there would be no emotions involved. But Preston's mind wasn't normal to begin with, so his thoughts were sure to be abnormal.
