Chapter 945: Lapdog

"Have you figured it out?" Camille met his gaze with indifference, her tone lacking warmth.

Unable to discern her emotions, Ayan could only stare at her, his voice slightly hoarse as he asked, "Are you angry?"

"We were just discussing how you talked to Eileen, right? So, do you want to answer me?" Camille blinked gently, her gaze seemingly able to speak, fixed on Ayan.

Ayan blinked in response, and as he looked at Camille, her expression became gentler. He softly replied, "It didn't go very well. I simply asked a few questions and then arranged for a maid to accompany her back to the hotel."

"Arranged a maid to go back to the hotel with her?" Camille was a bit puzzled.

He explained, "I suspect Preston has already arrived in Hance, but Eileen hasn't mentioned anything. I can't watch her around the clock, so I had a maid stay with her at the hotel under the pretext of cooking for her."

Camille nodded in agreement, but she didn't say anything. Her demeanor didn't reveal much emotion or expression, and she appeared quite composed. This calmness made Ayan feel a bit uncomfortable; it was as if she didn't care very much.

Ayan: "Why are you ignoring me again?"

Camille lowered her gaze to meet his eyes, her voice gentle, "I'm thinking, are you planning to keep Eileen in the hotel indefinitely? Given her current condition, she probably won't leave so soon, right?"

Staying in a luxury hotel every day-was Ayan paying for it, or was Eileen covering the cost?

The thought bothered Camille a bit, but she didn't voice it. After all, she and Ayan weren't remarried yet. Even though their current situation wasn't much different from being remarried, there was still the matter of that legal certificate.

Camille didn't say anything, but she kept thinking about it, and the more she thought, the more uneasy she felt.

So, Ayan wasn't sure what Camille meant by asking this. He simply responded, echoing her statement, "She wants to reclaim her former career in Hance."

"Her old profession?" Camille asked impassively.

Ayan replied softly, "Yes," conveying his response about Eileen.

Camille asked seriously, "If she's willing to cooperate with you, will you really help her?"

Camille's question was earnest, and her unwavering gaze fixed on Ayan.

He unconsciously furrowed his brows, his voice slightly deep, "Eileen won't cooperate with me."

"Are you so sure?"

"It's not that. Her status and stance don't allow her to cooperate with me. If she were really willing to cooperate with me, she would have told me everything and agreed to collaborate against Preston when she had no other choice but to go to Flento and be with Austin."

Kian had simply booked a room right next to Preston's hotel room. They continued this for two or three days, during which Preston didn't show any signs of activity-uncharacteristic of Preston. Kian immediately called Ayan to report the situation.

He asked Ayan, "Mr. Simpson, has Preston discovered us?"

Kian's words had just fallen when the hotel room door was opened from the outside. Apart from hotel staff, guests couldn't have access to room keys.

So, Kian was immediately alert, rising to his feet. As he saw Preston enter, his expression became serious. Ayan's voice echoed slowly in his ear, "You don't have to keep watching. Arrange for someone to keep an eye on him."

Kian didn't respond. His gaze remained fixed on Preston, and his voice was solemn as he asked, "Is there something you need, Mr. Walker?"

"Shouldn't that be my question for you? Why are you in the hotel where I'm staying?" Preston regarded Kian with an indifferent expression, his eyes carrying a sharp coldness. His face was equally impassive, and his voice echoed clearly in the room.

Ayan naturally heard it, but his response was lukewarm, "This is a hotel, not his home. If he can come to us, we can naturally go to him."

Kian responded to Preston as Ayan instructed, but Preston merely chuckled coldly, "Kian, you're the chief secretary of the Simpson Group. You have to listen to your master in everything. You really do seem like a lapdog."

Preston's words were full of derision and mockery toward Kian, yet Kian showed no reaction. He only stared at Preston, his expression devoid of emotion, and said, "Whether I'm a lapdog or a chief secretary, neither compares to Mr. Walker's status. After all, you're the one who is still facing charges from the Simpson Group. So, Mr. Walker, how noble can you really be?"

Preston's expression stiffened. "In that case, just let the police come arrest me. If you keep surveilling me like this, do you know it's illegal?"
