Chapter 962: Cool Breeze

"We..."

"Oh, I get it. You're still in the 'getting to know each other' stage!" Ayan interrupted Kian, speaking slowly. "So, you're still single, and you don't understand the feeling of having a family, someone at home missing you. That's why I want to go back early; my wife misses me."

Kian's eyes widened, and he was completely stunned. He began to doubt if this was really Ayan.

Could someone be controlling him?

Kian was left speechless for a while and couldn't find words. Ayan, on the other hand, didn't seem to mind at all and continued speaking as if nothing was amiss. "Hurry back, take care of your matters, and I want to return to Hance City soon. You're not getting any younger, and you should get to know Yessica better. So, seize this opportunity with the girl Mrs. Simpson introduced you to. You can't go wrong with her, don't miss this chance. You'll realize the benefits of marriage once you're married. Wherever you go, someone cares for you, and that feeling is truly wonderful."

Kian was shocked and didn't know what to say. It was almost as if Ayan was hinting at something. "Are you saying...?"

Ayan didn't give him a chance to continue; he simply hung up.

Kian sighed in frustration; Ayan's teasing almost drove him crazy. He thought about how someone had professed her feelings for him and was now acting like this. Shouldn't they want to know how he's doing, or at least show some concern?

Although Kian and Yessica hadn't officially become a couple, they had frequent contact. Most of the messages were from Yessica, as Kian was a slow mover in matters of love. He hadn't been in a relationship before and was unsure how to act. When Camille introduced Yessica, he had accepted out of politeness, intending to clarify his intentions later with Yessica.

Yessica was a lively and outgoing girl, and she had shown interest in him but hadn't openly confirmed their relationship. It was more of a "I like you, but I won't force you to be with me. Even if we do get together, I want you to confess to me" kind of situation.

So, their relationship had remained in this state until now, with Kian getting used to Yessica's presence. Suddenly, without any warning or explanation, Yessica had gone silent. Adding to his confusion was Ayan's unusual phone call, which left him feeling even more unsettled.

Kian maintained his silence for a while, a smile playing on his lips. Then he decided to message Yessica, "I've been busy with something for the past couple of days. Once I'm done, can we meet in person? I have something to discuss with you."

Yessica promptly read the message and replied, "Sure, can you pick me up? Is that okay?"

"Okay," Kian responded. Suddenly, he felt a spark of anticipation he hadn't expected.

That night seemed peaceful, but in both Hance and Fola, there was an underlying sense of approaching storm.

As the night passed, the following morning's sunlight was still radiant. Ayan and Kian had gotten up early, around six in the morning, and joined the secretary and other staff to head to Fola. Ayan was busy all day, with no time to spare.

He had managed to send a message to Camille during lunch, but she hadn't replied. Ayan figured she might be busy. However, as the day went on and there was still no response from Camille, he started to worry. Perhaps last night's incident had embarrassed her?

Such thoughts crossed his mind but didn't linger. Instead, he decided to call Camille. However, she didn't answer.

Ayan felt a growing sense of unease. Camille's lack of response was unusual. She had been enthusiastic the previous day, so why was she silent now? He tried calling her again, but there was no answer.

Growing increasingly worried, Ayan dialed the number to the residence. The housekeeper answered, and Ayan asked, his voice tinged with urgency, "Is Mrs. Simpson at home?"

The housekeeper replied, "Mrs. Simpson hasn't returned yet. She's out having dinner with Mrs. Ward. Do you want to speak to Timmy?"

Ayan could sense the chill in Camille's voice. His face turned serious, and his deep eyes showed concern. His voice, a bit hoarse, finally broke the silence, "What's wrong?"

Camille replied in a casual tone, "It's nothing, really."

His voice held a hint of amusement, but his handsome face remained devoid of any discernible smile. There was no trace of extra emotion on his features. He remarked, "You call this 'nothing'? Did what I said bother you, or is something else on your mind?"

Camille was seated on the balcony of her bedroom. It was late at night, and a cool breeze wafted through, but she felt no chill. Her face remained expressionless, and her gaze was unfocused. She had one hand on her lips and was lost in thought.

She replied calmly, "Nothing's wrong."

Ayan's voice carried a hint of firmness, "Camille."

Camille continued with her cold tone, "Is everything settled on your end?"

"Yes, everything went smoothly."

"Good." Camille's tone was still emotionless. "Then we'll talk when you come back."

"Cami." Ayan's voice was firmer, with a hint of concern. "Why can't you just tell me what's going on? Didn't we agree not to ignore each other?"
