Chapter 984: Stammer

Camille was taken aback. She had only mentioned "if," why was he latching onto those words?

Camille pursed her lips and said, "Let me make an analogy."

"I don't like analogies like this," he replied bluntly, his expression turning cold. He continued, "Please, don't use such analogies again, okay?"

His words left Camille speechless, and she felt like the conversation had veered off course.

Camille naturally refused to answer. She met Ayan's gaze head-on, her lips pressed together in silence.

In truth, Camille still hadn't figured it out, because she had no idea how to resolve it in the first place.

Whenever she thought about this matter, her mind felt jumbled.

She was afraid that her decision would make Ayan think she was making a big deal out of nothing. This thought grew stronger in her mind, and her emotions became increasingly uneasy.

Her inner turmoil and hesitation were clearly evident in her eyes, although she believed she was concealing them well, Ayan could see right through her.

Ayan's deep eyes flickered slightly. He didn't continue with the previous topic but said, "Can you give me a chance?"

"What kind of chance do you want?"

"A chance to pursue you again?" He was quite candid, his eyes filled with sincere earnestness. He said, "I know you're probably still angry right now, but I hope you can agree to this and give me some assurance. It would save us from being too awkward, okay?"

Ayan's lips curled into a faint smile, and he continued, "If you're unwilling to give me a chance, then I'm afraid I'll have to take matters into my own hands."

Camille found his words puzzling.

And then, in the next moment, he said slowly, "Cami, let's get a divorce."

Camille was taken aback by Ayan's statement. She hadn't expected him to bring up divorce during this meal.

She remained silent for a long time, her thoughts seeming heavy, and her expression remained cold and unchanged.

The silence hung in the air.

Ayan's lips slightly parted, and he calmly continued, "Don't think that my decision to divorce means I want to cut ties with you completely. It's not that simple. So, it's best you don't have any ideas about completely getting rid of me or severing all connections."

His tone and attitude were quite domineering, which left Camille momentarily stunned. Her expression showed a hint of surprise.

Ayan's reaction prompted a faint smile to appear on his lips. He asked in a husky voice, "Why aren't you speaking?"

Camille pursed her lips lightly, and her expression remained somewhat tense. She responded in a calm, measured tone, "Have you thought it through?"

"Yes, I have," he replied without hesitation. His eyes remained calm and resolute, and there was no hint of evasion.

Camille didn't say anything, and there was a pause. Then she asked, "When do you want to go through with it?"

"Tomorrow morning, I'll come to pick you up, alright?" Ayan fixed his gaze on Camille. His thin lips curved into a gentle smile, and there was a sense of tranquility in his eyes.

Camille nodded lightly and said, "Alright, see you tomorrow morning."

"Good," Ayan replied in a warm tone.

In this moment, it felt like they were back to their previous state, and his words carried the same intimacy as before.

Camille didn't respond directly; instead, she changed the topic and asked if Talia had discussed Grandpa's health with him.

Ayan's expression turned serious, and he replied, "Dr. Ellis contacted me a couple of days ago. While the family doctor has been taking care of Grandpa's health over there, it's not as comprehensive as it would be in Hance. Dr. Ellis informed me that his age and the various health issues have compounded into significant problems. Given his age and the previous incidents, his body has a difficult time recovering. He requires attentive care."

Camille nodded in understanding, her expression growing solemn and concerned.

She let out a silent sigh, as if reminding herself and also reminding Ayan. She said, "Grandpa is getting older. Try to spend as much time with him as you can. Don't wait... because if you do, even regret won't make up for it."

Old Simpson had always been good to Camille, and she reciprocated by trying her best to ensure his happiness. She didn't want any regrets in the future.

Since the topic had become quite heavy, it cast a shadow over both of their moods.

Upon returning to Franklin Bay, Camille unbuckled her seatbelt and prepared to get out of the car. She turned to Ayan and said, "I'll go in first."

Ayan replied with a simple "Okay."

He gripped the steering wheel with one hand, his deep gaze fixed on Camille. He had shown little reaction throughout their conversation, which left Camille unsure. Without much hesitation, she pushed open the car door, intending to exit.

As one of her feet touched the ground, her hand was suddenly grabbed, and Ayan's deep voice sounded, "Are you leaving me alone here?"

Camille turned back in confusion, her eyes showing a hint of puzzlement. She didn't immediately understand the meaning behind his words.

It wasn't until later that she realized what he meant, and she instinctively tried to withdraw her hand, her voice becoming slightly stuttered, "You... what are you saying?"
