However, she knew that it was not the right occasion that day, as she would be the one embarrassed if she were to demand an explanation from Armand and rage at him.

Genevieve took a deep breath to suppress her overwhelming anger and smiled at Armand. “Yes, we got a divorce a few years ago. Since I've run into you today, Mr. Faulkner, I came to say hello as we were once married.”

Glancing down, Genevieve saw Sally clutching the man's arm, but her smile did not falter. “You two look so intimate. Are you married?”

Armand gulped but said nothing.

Instead, Sally was the one to answer after a sideway glance at him. “No, but it would not be long until our wedding,” she said breezily.

Would not be long before their wedding.

Genevieve almost fell over from a bout of dizziness. Biting the tip of her tongue hard, she used the pain to remain conscious and firm on her feet.

“Then let me congratulate you in advance, Ms. Loake.” Genevieve raised her glass at Sally.

After she took a sip of wine, her gaze grew cold as she glanced at the snuggling couple before her once more. “Excuse me, Ms. Loake, for departing ahead of time. It's also my children's birthday today. Their father died after they were born, you see. I cannot miss this year, as I've always celebrated their birthday with them.”

Sally was taken aback. “Wish the kids a happy birthday for me,” she said a moment later.

“I'll be sure to convey the message.” Genevieve smiled before turning around to retrieve her purse from her table.

Seeing that she was about to leave, Harry stood up and followed her.

Genevieve lost her composure once she exited the hotel. Even her eyes were red.

She then fished her phone out of her purse to call Cooper. “Has Armand been injected with Curb.emotion afterward, Coop?”

Since there is nothing wrong with Armand, why did he seem so calm when he saw me?

“I asked Stefan some questions when I was chatting with him,” Harry said as he gazed tentatively at Genevieve's pale visage. “Upon becoming Mr. Zane's godson, Mr. Faulkner became the Deputy Minister of the Department of Public Information of Jadeborough within half a month. Mr. Zane was to help him up the ranks when Mr. Faulkner's résumé looked better. On the other hand, Sally's father could help him ascend the ranks even faster.”

“Is Robert Zane the one who sat beside him?” Genevieve asked Harry quietly as she gazed at the rain.

“Yes.”

Genevieve had thought that Armand was merely on good terms with Robert. The news of him being Robert's godson surprised her.

“Isn't he your husband, Genevieve?” Harry probed curiously. “Why didn't he contact you after disappearing for such a long time and even becoming Mr. Zane's acquaintance instead?”

Genevieve pursed her lips and chuckled mirthlessly. “Didn't you hear him say I'm his ex-wife whom he divorced years ago?”

True enough, men are ungrateful brutes who forget everything once they pull up their pants!
