At Justin's threatening approach, Jake and I stood up, him pushing me behind him.
"Stop." He ordered. Even in a house of humans, those humans being my brother, they still heard the authority in his voice.
"Jen wasn't with me long, only a week, before she left." Jake tells them quickly.
"Where'd you go to? Why not stay with him?" Jace asks exasperated.
This is where I was supposed to tell them I ran away from Jake after we had a fight. I had been dreading to do this though, so I maneuvered myself away from it.
"I took one of Jake's cars and left him because I was afraid. I went a couple towns over then crashed at a hotel."
"What was there to be afraid of?" Jeremy growls out.
"I was falling in love with him." My brothers shift uncomfortably and I almost want to laugh at how cliché I was making this. "I've never loved anyone, except you guys that is, but I was falling in love with him. I was so afraid. Afraid of where it would leave and how it would be. So I left.
"I only planned to stay away for a few days- just to clear my head. I kinda lost track of time though."
"For months? Come on Jen you can't tell us you fell asleep one night in May and woke up in July and decided to come home. What happened to you? Why are you so injured?" Justin asks. I was getting tired of questions but I had prepared for this. They had a reason to be worried.
"I went into a diner for a quick bite to leave before I hit the road, only to leave eight hours later with a job."
"So you've been perfectly fine, living it up in your own little world while we've been worried sick? You didn't call Jen. You lied to mom then disappeared off the face of the earth. You could have-"
"I needed a break, Jace!" I interrupt him. "It was selfish of me, I know, but I knew when I came back I was gonna be thrown into reality again. I was gonna come back and start my senior year, only to then go to college and get a job. I wanted an adventure before it all happened. Plus I didn't bring my phone. I left it at Jake's."
My brothers processed the information as Jake squeezed my hand, reminding me he was there. I hoped the story we had made up was believable.
"So why are you so..... broken?" Jeremy asks, sounding concerned.
"I was ready to come back, so I packed up and left the little town I was in. On the way back, I swerved on the interstate to avoid hitting an animal. I happened to swerve into a semi."
My brothers stayed quiet and I think I had finally answered all their questions. for now at least.
