Eugene didn’t stay over that night. Madeline lay in bed, but sleep eluded her as she had slept ton long during the day. 

The light in the room was a warm yellow. She lay in bed, looking at the two rings around her neck. The diamonds on the ring were bright under the light, but she didn’t try them on. After all, a ring had a different meaning from other accessories and wasn’t a gift typically given between siblings. 

Madeline fiddled with the rings. “They’re so weird. There are so many good people in the world. Why do they have to choose me? 

Although being firmly chosen was a happy thing, she had 12 brothers. It was inevitable that some of them would have this idea. 

“Maybe they just… wanted to marry me when we were line? And that grew into an obsession in their adulthood? It would be inappropriate for me to really date my brothers.
