The soft bed carried a unique, cool scent that unmistakably belonged to Eugene. 

I smelled like a cool and alluring flower, with an enticing aroma that made hearts race. 

Madeline looked up, meeting Eugene’s lowered gaze, and said, “You’re drunk. You’re not a kid anymore, so go to bed early.” 

The warm light bathed the bed. 

Madeline preferred pure white cotton and linen bedding, which wrinkled easily. 

She wanted to sit up, but Eugene rolled over, holding her down beneath him

Madeline noticed his pants weren’t outside, so he must have taken the keys into the bathroom with him.

Madeline thought to herself. He really did leave the key outside. There’s no way I am just going to sit here and Madeline took a deep breath, glanced at the silhouette behind the frosted glass, and went to look for the key.

The bathroom door was wide open, revealing a sink just outside the shower area, separated by a glass door. Madeline’s heart raced in panic. If Gavin caught a glimpse of what was happening, she’d be in deep trouble. 

Seeing Madeline in such a panic, Eugene reached out and pulled her into the shower. 

Gavin had already entered the room. 

He scanned the vacant room, the only sound being the steady splash of the shower, and decided against pressing on with his search. Gavin called out, “Maddie, I saw you had the door locked. I went ahead and unlocked it for you. Don’t do that again, okay? The lock’s a bit finicky. You in there taking a shower? How about we take a break for a late–night snack?”
