Helena and Frank had rested for a couple of hours after arriving. 

The trip had been tiring. From the moment they received Gavin’s call, they started packing, bringing along vegetables, fish, and poultry without a break. 

Their excitement kept them awake during the journey, but once they arrived, fatigue hit them hard. The nap revitalized them considerably. 

In the room, Helena listened to the cheerful sounds of a child’s laughter from outside and peeked through the door, a little

Helena shook her head. “It’s not about her. I adore Grace.” She sighed. “But now that there’s a child involved. Maddie will eventually need a husband.” 

Helena cracked the door open slightly. “Take a look out there, Gavin really cherishes Maddie. His feelings are quite evident. 

“But Eugene also cares for Maddie genuinely, he’d do anything to be with her. He’s such a nice boy too. 

“And then there’s Yohannes who doesn’t say much but his emotions are written all over his face.” 

Helena sighed again. “And her other brothers–they’re all remarkable people who care deeply for Maddie. I’m just afraid she might unintentionally affect their futures. She should pick someone she truly likes and not let anyone down.” 

Frank scratched his head thoughtfully. “That’s really up to them, isn’t it? How could she be blamed for affecting others?” 

“There’s only one Maddie, she can’t be shared among so many” Helena shrugged. “She should truly love one person and stick with it–like picking apples, you can’t grab them all.” 

Helena adored Madeline and felt protective, but couldn’t accept indecisiveness in matters of love. She worried that if Maddie didn’t choose wisely soon, these great men might slip away altogether. 

Frank agreed, “Let’s not say too much. Maddie has always been a smart and independent girl. She knows what she’s doing, and our views might not be the right ones for her situation.” 

Helena recognized the truth in her husband’s words, realizing that maybe her views were a bit outdated. Even by law and morality, she thought there should only be one partner. It was a concept she still struggled with. 

When they stepped outside, their demeanor returned to normal. 

Madeline quickly greeted them, “Grandma, Grandpa, how did you sleep? Are you comfortable here? It’s not as quiet as home.” 

“It’s fine,” Frank reassured her, patting her hand. Tve been out of the village before. Don’t worry about us; just focus on your life. We’re alright” 

Helena stayed silent, watching Eugene and Gavin set up the table. When she approached, Yohannes quickly pulled out a chair for her. The young man was exceptionally handsome, almost too delicate looking, and nervously murmured, “Mrs. Lewis,” 

Seeing his shyness made Helena feel warm inside. Yohannes blushed as soon as he addressed her, his nervousness was endearing 

He struck Helena as someone who probably had never dated or met parents before, explaining his bashful nature. Such genuine young men were rare these days; many men date around and become slick talkers, 

Madeline hadn’t dated before either, so it seemed only right for her to find someone equally pure–hearted. This way, both would be honest and straightforward with each other, leading to a harmonious marriage.

Yohannes, come sit by me, Helena said warmly, pulling him closer. “I’ve seen your movies back home. The girls in our town adore you and say you’re a big star” 

“Mrs. Lewis, I’m no big star. Here. I’m just Yohannes, he replied, sitting beside her, cheeks turning red. “Acting is my job, please don’t treat me like a stranger–Ill get embarrassed.” 

Helena smiled. “Tell me, do you meet a lot of pretty actresses at work? Do many people like you?” 

“They’re just colleagues. I’ve never dated anyone, and I’ve got someone I care about. So I keep things professional to avoid any misunderstandings and to show respect for the one I love… Yohannes spoke genuinely, with a hint of innocence. 

He was usually so quiet, but today he had plenty to say. Gavin was bringing out dishes, surprised that Yohannes was somehow gaining favor. He felt a pang of irritation. 

Yohannes wasn’t always this assertive, but Madeline’s attention earlier encouraged him. He realized showing his intentions was essential. “Mrs. Lewis, Yohannes began softly, I lost my family young and grew up in the orphanage. I was introverted and often bullied, but Maddie protected me like a little guardian. Without her, I wouldn’t be who I am today.”

Helena wore a silver bracelet passed down through her family. Though it wasn’t as shiny as it used to be, the patterns on it were still striking, imbued with an aged elegance. Unable to resist, she decided to pass the bracelet to Yohannes, acceptance as an elder
