Chapter 34 

Meanwhile, at the Larson residence, Thomas sat on the couch with his five sons around him. 

There was a pile of fancy gifts on the coffee table. 

Winslet sat in the middle of them, wearing a new branded dress like a little princess. 

She enjoyed being the center of everyone’s attention and admiration. 

“Are all these gifts to celebrate my going to school or my discharge from the hospital?” 

Lucas replied, “Of course, it’s for both occasions, Winnie. Didn’t you notice each of us gave you two gifts? You’re our baby sister, so we can’t be stingy with you.” 

Winslet smiled sweetly. “You’re the best, Lucas” 

“You’re showing favoritism, Winnie: Joel’s lips curved slightly. Take a guess. If you get it wrong, we’ll be really unhappy” 

The eldest brother, Harley, looked dotingly at Winslet. “If you get it wrong, we’ll take back the gifts 

Thomas laughed. “You’re all grown adults. Why are you all picking on Winne 

Winslet clung to Thomas and wrinkled her nose defiantly. “Humph, no way am I guessing that. I want all of them! Otherwise, I’ll tell Dad!” 

Everyone roared with laughter. 

The atmosphere within the family was joyful 

Just then, Layla came back 

As soon as she entered the house, the smiles of those in the room instantly faded. 

“Well, I finally managed to bring this young lady back. She doesn’t treat us as a family at all. You have no idea how harsh her words were just now.” Layla proceeded to sit on the couch and sip some coffee. “Luckily, Benjamin was with me. Otherwise don’t think I’ll be able to bring her back.” 

Benjamin dragged Madeline forcefully and felt sorry for treating her that way. “If Madeline came back with us willingly. things wouldn’t have gone out of hand.” 

Madeline shook off his hand and spat, “Let me go.” 

Winslet then chimed in hypocritically, “Maddie, you can’t blame them. You were too reckless. Mom and Dad had been worried sick and had not had a proper meal since. You should have come home earlier. You’re not even answering our calls and messages. We were concerned about you.” 

Winslet shifted to the side as she spoke to give a space on the couch. “Don’t just stand there, Maddie, Come and sit with me. Our brothers gave me a lot of gifts. You can pick whatever you

Lucas frowned. “If she dares to take what I gave you, I’ll break her hands. 

“Ha.” Joel smiled. “I’d rather you throw my gifts away than give them to her.” 

The other three brothers remained silent. 

Thomas waved his hand dismissively and said, “That’s enough. Our family rarely gets together. Today is to celebrate Winnie. 

Let’s not be hostile to one another.”

Thomas added, “Maddie, I know you’re reluctant to do it. But you owe Winnie this time. I won’t comment on what happened in the past, but you really hurt Winnie this time. You should be grateful she didn’t press charges against you” Thomas sighed. Just take it as compensation for Winnie.” 

Madeline felt sick and nauseous when she heard this. 

She balled her hands into a fist by her side as she shook with anger.

She glanced around and found that Anne, the only one who was friendly to her at home, was not there. “Where is Anne?” 

A trace of arrogance flashed in Winslet’s eyes. “Oh, Anne! She’s so mentally confused that she stole my necklace worth 36.000 dollars, so she’s in prison now. I know you and Anne are quite close, Maddie. You’re still young; it’s normal see through her.”

Madeline glared ferociously at Winslet. 

She knew exactly what kind of person Anne was. 

Anne had been faithfully working for the Larson family for the past 15 years. 

Thus, Madeline did not find it hard to believe that Winslet would frame Anne. 

Anne’s kindness to Madeline had, in turn, become the former’s downfall.

Madeline merely curved her lip. “I won’t do what you want. After faking for so long, you’ve finally gotten your way, haven’t you, Winslet?” 

Madeline went straight upstairs after saying that. 

Winslet put up an innocent facade once more. “Mom, Dad, I told you I’m giving up the spot. Now Maddie must hate me so much. And it’s too late to change. I have already registered… What should we do now?” 

“It’s okay. You deserve it. Don’t worry about it. Madeline owes you one,” Layla comforted. “She almost killed you. It’s just a spot in the school. It’s not a big deal.” 

The other family members also agreed with Layla’s words. 

Winslet pretended to be comforted by them and acted as if she felt more relieved. 

In reality, she had already decided in her heart to get into the school no matter what. 

Madeline sat alone in the room with her arms wrapped around her knees. She was staring at the depressing high–rise building outside her window. 

She finally made up her mind. 

She was going to cut ties with the Larson family. 

“I can’t change the fact that I’m related to them by blood. But I can change it legally,” she thought.
