Since Joseph was nowhere to be found, some of the guests began to whisper. They guessed that Joseph suddenly got cold feet and didn’t want to get married, which was why he didn’t show up. 

When Austin heard what they were saying, he immediately became anxious. “This won’t do. I have to go look for him.” 

He had been taking pleasure in Lucille’s misfortune earller, but when he saw people gossiping about her right then, he was the first one to react.
