The corner of Elisa’s lips twitched. “The law, you say?”
The look on everyone’s faces changed instantly.
One of the women who looked up to Elisa shot a sharp look at the young man. “Did you sleep enough yesterday? How are you always so senseless? Ms. Benett is Iris – I think she knows very well what is against the law and what is not!”
It was considered polite of her to not point out that he was an idiot.
“I…” he stuttered.
Meanwhile, Darell’s face darkened.
Though Elisa did not mention his name, he was the one who came up with the recruitment process. She’s implying that I’m incapable, isn’t she?
Underneath the table, his fists were clenched tightly as he struggled to reign in his anger.
“What are your thoughts on this, Mr. Anderson?” With that, Elisa glanced at him coolly.
This was not the first time he had opposed her ideas.
Though he was just a deputy manager, it was common knowledge that he had already hijacked the manager’s responsibilities. Everyone in the department had to take his orders.
Everyone turned around to look at him.
He gritted his teeth before explaining, “I’m not accusing you of insulting me. I just think that there are some problems with the candidate just now. He has such an erratic temper. I don’t understand why you insisted on hiring him. Did he display such high moral values?”
The last sentence was spoken with such authority that they felt a familiar sense of pressure.
Everyone jolted in their seats before realizing it was Elisa – not Gareth – standing in front of them.
The pressure they give out is so similar! It felt suffocating at that moment, and I almost forgot how to breathe!
No one dared to say anything. Even Darell felt as though he was imprisoned, forgetting to protest against her.
A sudden silence fell upon the room, but Elisa was not done with her speech.
As everyone held their breaths, she locked eyes with Darell indifferently.
